I'm seriously growing to enjoy [a:Romeo Alexander|17367017|Romeo Alexander|https://s.gr-assets.com/assets/nophoto/user/m_50x66-82093808bca726cb3249a493fbd3bd0f.png]'s MM romances. They are kinda short, to the point, sweet, packs quite a few punches and goodies and always enjoyable.
Usually I don't really fancy military romances, but I was glad i decided to pick this up on a whim. There's mention of military and even deployment stuff, but not heavy on it. Enough just to add depth to the story which I appreciated. The pace was easy and brisk, and the writing was, as per usual, good.
Sloane and Dean had been best friends since basic training and throughout all this time, Dean has been crazy in love with Sloane, and finally realising nothing is going to come out of it and that he needs to put his feelings past him, he decides to try dating and that is where we see the story finally come to a head. I loved both Sloane and Dean. Sloane the grumpy and mean bastard, but loyal and possesive to a fault and whom only Dean can understand and appreciate. I like that we only got to see his softer side when he is with Dean. As for Dean, you can certainly feel for him, as the angst of not having the one person he wants all this time, to his traumas and his internal struggles are laid out bare. The best friends to lovers trope was quite nicely played out here.
As for the GFY trope, it was nice that it wasn't played down to just a "Surprise! I like dicks now!" turn of events, and though it can be tricky to navigate, it was done pretty well here. More than anything, Sloane being demisexual rather than gay or bi made so much more sense due to the emotional connection he has with Dean. It was quite refreshing that that aspect was kinda laid out more as a possibility than some lazy and downright flippant attempt of throwing in a GFY trope just for the heck of it.
Overall great start to a new series that I absolutely would continue in a heartbeat.

Another silly, goofy story of a straight man (Sloane) who platonically cuddles with his gay best friend (Dean) and gets jealous when he sees Dean on a date with another man. Because that's a total normal straight thing to do, right?
My only annoyance with this book is Sloane's constant insistence that he's straight but only gay for Dean. I wish the author would have explored the actual term demisexual. Having said that, these guys were so fucking cute. Dean is a gay medic in the army who has been best friends with grumpy, growly Sloane for 6 years. They have movie nights where they fall asleep cuddled together all the time, Sloane is mean to everyone but Dean, Dean is in love with Sloane, and you can automatically tell where this story is going.
After Sloane sees Dean on a date with another man, he loses his shit and acts like a jealous idiot. They fight, spend some time apart, and then Dean blurts out that he's in love with Sloane in the middle of an argument. They spend a little more time apart but decide to just sweep things under the rug and go back to being friends. Except they end up drinking an entire bottle of vodka and share a blowjob.
Basically, Sloane never really admits that he's demisexual or gay or anything other than "straight but in love with Dean," and they just kind of start dating. Once they're together, things progress quickly and they are actually so sweet together. Sloane is completely smitten with Dean and treats him like a prince. They're just adorable.
Anyway, these stories are so ridiculous but damnit if I don't get butterflies every time.

I really wanted to like this, a best friend's to lovers is something I really enjoy. But this books feels... Weird.
There's not something specific, the feelings and thoughts of the characters are over explained, a lot of times in the same page or the dialogue and thoughts are basically the same and you have to read it twice.
Also, I didn't bought the fact that Dean and Sloane were best friends, to me it feel like Dean and Marco were, that trough me off the story.
The story feels repetitive too, I didn't cared much about the military side, but three times Dean and Sloane fight or do something that weird them out, they don't talk, they spend too many time thinking the same over and over again and then they apparently are ok and then they're not. It was exhausting.
Bit everything was bad, I did enjoyed some interactions of them and the sex scenes weren't bad, but that didn't saved the story for me.

No real surprises in this read, but it was sweet.
The word we are all looking for here is demisexual. I could be projecting.
Just felt compelled to wave my purple, gray, white, and black flag over here...
