By most of the action of the story being told in the previous book this one just gets to focus so solidly on Nerilka. I loved her growth and character.

Such a nice addition to the Pern storyline. I love how she took a minor character and used this short novella to give us a different perspective on the events. Just wish it was longer.

A solid companion to Moreta, but if I hadn’t read the first book, I think I would have been thoroughly flabbergasted by this one. It’s very much a diary of the main character, told with the understanding that the reader already has context and knowledge of the events. However, because I do have that mindset, I did enjoy seeing Nerilka’s journey from her point of view. It was just so speedy, I felt I didn’t have time to fully ingest the material.

Better than Moreta

This book, like Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern, is a difficult book to read. This book takes place during the same time frame as Moreta but focuses on Nerilka and how her story spins out. So, unsurpisingly, it is a book that starts and follows tragedy, then triumph, just to be followed up with more tragedy. That being sad, Nerilka's Story ends on a wonderfully happy, hopeful note and is the closure one needs for this story. I really do love McCaffrey's writing and Nerilka's character and book is definitely one of my favorite volumes of Pern, despite all the heartache.

This is probably my favorite Pern book so far. I'm not sure why as about half the book is a rehash of events from Moreta. Maybe because I like Nerilka as a character? This also the first book I've read in the Pern series that used first person narration. That may have helped as well. There were a few things that happened near the end of the book that were mildly problematic, but considering this series is full of these moments, these weren't bad and didn't taint my enjoyment of the book. Overall, a decent addition to the series

A much better story than "Moreta," even though it is the same story.

This should be read in conjunction with Moreta. It isn't quite as good as Moreta but it does give another perspective to the story.

I feel disloyal, but this book just didn't cut it. Sad.
