One of the finest books I've read, for children or adults. It took me weeks to get through, instead of hours, because it was intense and heartrending. I'm glad I stuck it out to the end, though. It doesn't pull any punches, and it's beautiful and terrible.

A quick read. Engaging. The ending felt a bit fast for me but overall enjoyable. I'd say it's not for young children. Early teens and up.
Graphic: Animal cruelty, Animal death, Bullying
Moderate: Child death
Minor: Injury/Injury detail

We’ll written with a simple to follow story line. A lovely lesson with plenty of jerks to the heart strings.
Very much along similar lines of the boy who cried wolf lesson but in such and engaging way.

From the opening sentence "The year I turned twelve, I learned how to lie" I knew I was in for something special. Reminiscent of To Kill a Mockingbird in its tone and in its plucky, young heroine/narrator, this haunting novel has all the components of a classic. The enigmatic, loner, war-veteran, Toby; the pretty blonde, dark-hearted newcomer student, Betty and a moral dilemma that Annabelle decides is hers alone to handle, I loved the writing and the plot. I'll say no more so no spoilers but I'm predicting now that Wolf Hollow will win a Newberry Medal. Ages 10+.
After talking with Karyn, I decided that maybe I should actually write something about the books I read from time to time, rather than simply rate them. This book reminded me of one of my childhood favorites, [b:Summer of My German Soldier|18580|Summer of My German Soldier (Summer of My German Soldier, #1)|Bette Greene|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1166975959s/18580.jpg|816350]. I loved how in Annabelle's head the book was and that no explanation was given or really even sought for Betty's behavior.

This reminded me of To Kill A Mockingbird in the best way. The voice just seemed similar to me. That isn't to say it is just like TKAM or anything but I just got the same sort of nostalgic - life is complicated and yet simple sort of feeling from reading it. A great, sweet book. I can see why it won the Caldecott.
This book was such a unique, beautiful book. I listened to it in the car while driving, and was always excited to continue the story. The cast of characters is exactly what was needed for this book, with an amazing main character and well written side characters. The plot is something I couldn't predict and left me silent in the end.

Such a great book with a beautiful story. The ending left me silent and does remind us all that life isn't always fair. Life will not always give you what you deserve and neither will it to others. The audiobook is definitely recommended, I loved the way it was told and it definitely fit the story.
