The Pioneer Woman: Black Heels To Tractor Wheels 🍒🍒🍒
By Ree Drummond
2011
Harper Collins
There is a saying - you'll find love in the strangest places, when you least expect it- and this memoir of Ree Drummond decision to forego her Big City Girl high class life to become the wife of a rancher, begs us to follow this premise. This novel reads like a made for TV Hallmark movie. Just plain sweet, gooey and.oozing with love for her Marlboro Man. It seems throughout the book, she is trying more to sell the story, then tell the story. For.me, some.of references and how she.portrays hee developmentally disabled brother were rather, odd and cold. Distant. Referring to the man she is so smitten with as Marlboro Man, never giving him a name, an identity. Just Marlboro Man....
"I'd found the one man on earth who would appreciate my spots if imperfection....and who wouldn't try to polish them all away." p.107
" I knew the last of the struggles weren't fully behind us.
But still.....I couldn't shake the feeling.
I could see it. I knew
The sun was getting ready to rise."
I do like Ree and adore her daily show on Food Network, The Pioneer Woman. I enjoy watching her cook and bake and her family, which are center on her show. She is a woman very sure of her capabilities, and knows the importance of selling the product. In this case, herself. But her sincere love of cooking and baking are always refreshing. She seems to have seamlessly evolved from a city girl to a pioneer woman, has several cookbooks, a popular blog, and her own store, the Merc. Her success speaks for.itself, as does her love of her family, esp her children and, of course, her work.
Why does she sound so lonely?
Easy and good read. Recommended. Includes some family recipes.

I really love this book. Many of the stories made me laugh out loud and helped me reminisce about my own courtship days with Bryce.
I loved this book so much. I think it's because it reminded me of Dustin's and my love story. So funny, and sweet, and enjoyable. I didn't even know she had a blog until I read her cookbook.
I'm a little biased but I loved this book. A long time ago, this story is what got me totally into the Pioneer Woman. I remember sitting down and reading the whole thing one afternoon on my computer, so I kinda knew the book would be good as well.
There are some important differences though between the blog and book, most importunity style. The book, as you might imagine, is less off the cuff, her editors definitely reigned her in a bit. While some reviewers found this troublesome, and while I did miss some of the PW's quirks, I wasn't really bothered by it. I also loved the new 3rd part of the book- for this alone it was worth the price.
Overall, if you're a PW fan- read it. If you love romance novels: definitely read it, because it's more amazing when you know it's real.

She's really repetitive.
Got about half way through this, the cowboy has proposed, and I have no need to continue reading.

Yes, you can find the majority of the contents on her blog, however reading about their honeymoon was worth getting the book.
Also, when I read the blog content I was reading sections here and there, between tending to children who do not appreciate being ignored because mom is too busy reading. The second read was slightly more relaxed, and a realization how much I missed the first time through.
The book is all fluff and fun, and everyone needs one of those every now and then.

Really enjoyed reading this book while hold up in our house over a two day snow-in in Michigan. I really enjoy Ree on the Food Network so it was fun to see how her life with the Marlboro Man started. I have a hot Marlboro Man of my own.
I thought the running cows part as her initiation was hilarious. I was listening to her reading the audiobook and i couldn't stop laughing. As someone who grew up on a cattle ranch, and took few guys home to meet the family,I could relate. It was a cute love story. Read her blog before the book you'll understand her a lot better.
I loved it!!! Couldn't put it down. Her characters were relatable an took me back to when my husband and I just met.

First thought after finishing: It must be exhausting to be Ree Drummond, she does a whole bunch of over thinking (I mean that in a good way as it makes for entertaining reading)!
What I Loved: It is hard not to love a real love story! It was very sweet how she and Marlboro Man courted, got married, and survived a very hard first year of marriage (though that part of the book was rushed--especially since that was the new stuff).
What I Liked: Ree, herself, is a hot mess but fun to read. I will admit I don't watch her show, don't visit her website (though I did to look at pictures--very cute family), and didn't know she was on food network. My sister is a fan so I had "heard" about her but didn't know much. The book made me smile at the end so that is all that is important.
Last thought: Fans of Ree's website will love this book (I think) but non-fans will find it a cute true love story.
