As soon as I started The Wind Weaver I was hooked. The world Julie has created really captivated me and I was truly immersed in the story. The world building was done really well and wasn’t confusing to understand. Rhya and Penn are great main characters and I love the banter and humour in the book as well. There are so many great quotes throughout the book. The romance was spot on for me. It was a slow burn and not all the book was focused on right from the beginning like a lot of romantasy books.
Such a great first book and I will definitely be continuing the series there is no question about it. The writing was perfect and I wish I could read book two now as I can’t stop thinking of the characters and I want to know what they are up to.

This book is little to no plot, all vibes. Unless you count learning about the world as a plot. But it didn't even matter because I thoroughly enjoyed it. It very much felt like a "first book" where everything is being set up for later books in the series. I do think some things could've been cut down, or cut completely for the sake of shortening the book, 500+ pages was a bit much for this type of story.

I like Rhya as the main character. All the side characters are great. I cannot make up my mind about Penn, there are aspects of him I adore, and some that make me want to throat punch him. I'm also excited to learn more about Soren in the next book.

One of my least enjoyable reads this year by far. I am so over the bratty 20-yr old FMCs who are rude and belligerent but somehow pretty much everyone loves anyways. The dialogue was often cringy and made the characters feel like snotty pre-teens. The chemistry between the FMC and MMC was non-existent — it’s never entirely clear why she likes him eventually (she was always attracted to him cuz he’s hot obviously, but very vague as to where the love came from) and 100% just stated that he loves her, without any explanation as to why.

The plot was somewhat interesting but shockingly unoriginal — elemental magic, a prophecy, a magical bond, an evil king who hates magic, the FMC is afraid to use her powers because she can’t control them … maybe 5% of the book actually contained creative new ideas. Arguments were repetitive and frustrating and there weren’t nearly enough female characters; outside of the FMC there were literally two other women of note, and one of them was a bitchy queen. I could continue ranting about how much I disliked this book but I’ll leave it with 0/10 rating, did not have a good time.

I'm sorry but this was so disappointing.

There were some interesting world building and magic concepts that the author was playing with, but that wasn't enough to carry the story. This books characters felt too YA, and the constat inner monologue 'let me tell you instead of showing you' style of writing got very old, very fast. I nearly gave up several times through, and honestly maybe I should have.
