I'm only mildly embarrassed by how much I enjoyed reading this. I had incredibly low expectations but reading the very first page sucked me in. It's like hanging out with old friends and remembering that time you saved the world from Voldemort.

I both saw the play and read the book. The book is missing the magic and theater that can only be achieved on stage. The plot is a bit of a let-down in both magic and theater, but the story immerses the reader into the world of Harry Potter just enough to make me happy and give it a "loved it" rating. In truth, I'm probably reviewing this for the stage play, which was really amazing.

It’s not Harry Potter, except it kind of is and I love it. When you compare it to the old books- no comparison (they were THAT good). When you read it as piece that ties you to the greatest stories and brings you back- it’s simply wonderful. Truly missing J.K. Rowling and her works.

HOW TO FIX THE CURSED CHILD:

1. "Incendio" all expectations until they are completely ash.

2. Rewatch A Very Potter Musical and start imagining Darren Criss and Lauren Lopez as Harry and Draco when you read Cursed Child rather than Daniel Radcliffe and Tom Felton. Actually, just do that with all the characters, and assign your favorite random Starkid actors to Scorpius, Albus, and Delphi. Also, (AVPM and Cursed Child spoiler)
Spoilermake Delphi Quirrell and Voldemort's adopted daughter.
It's essentially moreso a sequel in tone and storyline to A Very Potter Senior Year than anything Rowling has actually written.

3. Steal a time-turner (because we all know that those are invaluable commodities that should be just hanging around for any 4th year level Hogwarts student to steal) and go back in time to the release date of Deathly Hallows to remember what this series was like when it was innocent and the main characters had set characters...

Nah, I kid. Just read slash fanfiction between Scorpius and Albus and you'll be getting the best part of The Cursed Child without actually reading The Cursed Child.

How could Bellatrix had time to have a whole child before the Battle of Hogwarts? I mean... ew.

I just finished it.... I'm at a loss of words. It was fun to read a Harry Potter thing again, though I don't think it should have been advertised as the 8th book. The nostalgia of dropping everything I was doing to read a newly released Harry Potter book was great. Read it in one sitting. I knew that since it was a play, it would be very different from the novels. But some of it was painful to read, some of it was fun. I don't regret reading it but I don't think I'll give this a reread, not like all the rereads I've done with the real series. I would try to borrow it from a friend or library or buy it used before dropping 20+ dollars on it. Maybe it makes a better play than a read. Feels rushed and plot holes are insane. It's obvious that it is not written by JK herself.

DNF at 37%. This is my second time trying to get through this script and it is just mind numbing. I’ve been told the play is amazing but I cannot get through this. It’s been 2 weeks now of trying on my 2nd shot.

I really did enjoy this one. I was a bit hesitant, but I do love reading plays in general.

I did find it bit predictable, but it didn't disappoint me.

The only reason this play gets one star is Scorpio Malfoy and an occasional good joke
Otherwise it read like bad fanfiction, and takes away from the happy ending of the books. Harry Potter has been through so much, can't he just send his children off to Hogwarts without any drama?!

I can't stomach it. I love Harry Potter. But this whole play long, Harry Potter was as annoying as he was in book #5, Albus was more annoying, Rose was annoying, (actually, everyone was annoying but Draco and Scorpio), and the end is ludicrous, like bad fan fiction. I know a lot of people liked this, and I love Harry Potter, but it always has bugged me that J.K. Rowling has written out every character's full backstory (I still ship Neville and Luna, no matter what Pottermore says), and I couldn't stomach this play.
