I really enjoyed OUT OF HER LEAGUE and it ended up being different then I was expecting but so much better for it. Kaylea Cross really knows how to write suspenseful books with truly creepy bad guys but she also knows how to counter that suspense with a beautiful romance. I just wanted to keep reading to find out what would happen next and I was so invested in Christa's healing and journey to happiness. There were parts of OUT OF HER LEAGUE that were so hard to read as Christa begins to heal after her stalker attacks her and I liked the level of gravity that Cross gave those moments. While Christa always feels comfortable and safe with Rayne she's still not instantly "fixed" because overcoming trauma takes time and truly changes a person.

I so admired Christa's mental and emotional strength and her ability to still be vulnerable when it all became too much. There's also a real sweetness to Christa and we see that throughout the book as she takes care of her friends and others. While a past relationship dented Christa's self-esteem that hasn't destroyed her belief in true love and finding her own chance at a family one day. She worries that a playboy like Rayne won't be interested in her but once Rayne begins to show how he feels Christa doesn't doubt it. Christa's path through her trauma and PTSD was real and genuine and just written really well.

I found it really interesting that Christa and Rayne's relationship had barely started before Christa's attack which means that things really changed between them. As much as Rayne wants Christa he knows that he has to go at her pace and give her the space and time to heal. Rayne was such a great hero and watching him fall for Christa was great to read. These two definitely have a slow burn as Christa learns to trust that Rayne is interested in more than a fling and Rayne works to make sure Christa always feels safe with him. The care between these two was so beautiful and every page had me falling right alongside them.

I'm really looking forward to this series because OUT OF HER LEAGUE had everything I love in a suspense romance.

Content Warning: Christa is stalked, attacked, and almost raped (on page) after which she is dealing with PTSD

Liked it a lot! Rayne was an excellent hero, and i am hoping that there might be a possibility for his parents getting back together in maybe a later book. Am looking forward to reading more:)

Fantastic story!

Everyone needs a hero and that is what happens in this book. Christina goes through a lot to find out that her hero and true love are waiting right there for her all along. This is a great book and well worth buying.

There are a TON of I've-Got-A-Stalker-Save-Me-Hot-Cop books out there. A TON. Some of them are really good, and some of them are just plain painfully terrible. This one is a good, solid example of the theme. You've got a girl who's strong, but understandably traumatized. You've got a hot cop with his own stuff going on (family woes). The pacing of this story is top-notch, longer than I expected (in a good way), and I completely bought the emotional and character development. There was a lot the Heroine had to work through (her trauma of not only her stalker, but her ex-boyfriend, too), and Cross wrote it perfectly.

TBR Challenge 2011- June Category: Contemporary Romance. this book has been on my amazon wishlist since August 2010.

3.5 to 4 stars
The strength of this book is the author's characterization of the characters. Christa was especially well-done. Her PSTD was shown more realistically than I've ever encountered in a romance book. The growing attraction between Rayne and Christa was handled believably, as was Christa's reluctance to act on the attraction and Rayne's determination to give her all the time she needed. Very few women in real life recover from this kind of trauma by throwing themselves into a physical relationship.

The stalker, and the entire suspense plot, was well-plotted and a little creepy. Unfortunately, some plot points hinged on Christa making less than stellar decisions, but the decisions weren't sheer stupidity. They were decisions to try to keep living a normal life, and later a decision to put someone else's needs before hers.

Towards the very end of the book, the author chose to slow the suspense plot down and use a road trip to develop the relationship between Rayne and Christa. This part of the book didn't work for me. I found it boring and a little sappy. It felt like I was dropped in the middle of not-so-great Harlequin romance. Thankfully, this little side-trip doesn't take up too many pages.

At the end I was hoping the author would deal a little more with Christa's recovery from PTSD, since finding true love isn't a sure-fire cure. But overall this is a very good suspense story and a sweet romance. I'll be looking for more books by Ms. Cross.

Frankly, i was disappointed. :(

I read this book since it was recommended after i read Pamela Clare's I-team series. Uhh.. it pales in comparison with Ms. Clare's work. I feel so bad that i had to compare them. Maybe i would've enjoyed this more if i hadn't read it right after I-Team.

I tried hard to like the main characters. Believe me, i tried. It's just that when i find a scene that i like, another scene would come up and then i'll lose interest again or get turned off ... Hmm.. i find the story predictable and kinda shallow. There was no thrill with regards the stalker anymore since he was identified from the start. Christa? she had me confused.. like totally. For a moment there i believed that she is a strong character.. and then things went wrong and suddenly i find her making stupid decisions and acting like a damsel. Ugh. Rayne on the other hand... well he is a likable character... i have a thing or two to say about him but i won't dwell on it.

Anyway.. that's it.. i'm giving this one a 3. I'll read the next book.. maybe it gets better.

Out Of Her League is about Christa a star softball player trying to make it to the Olympic team, until she has to take some time off due to a crazed fan. She and her crush (who is a cop)Rayne, get thrown together when Christa gets several threatening messages from her stalker. They soon realize that he is not going away, and he has sinister plans to harm Christa. Along the way Rayne and Christa start to build a really close relationship with each other that soon turns into more, but they have to go through several obstacles first before they can take the plunge from friends to something more.
First and foremost is Christa's safety.
I really enjoyed this book, it was highly suspenseful and exciting. I was on edge trying to figure out what what happen next. However at about sixty percent of the book, the story seemed to change. It was like the author threw in a bunch of extras just to make the story longer, and more enjoyable. But to me it had the opposite affect, I got frustrated with all of the extra stuff, and wanted to just get back to the main story line. Also there were a few instances where there weren't enough details to explain things. Some things were just left hanging because there wasn't enough detail to explain it.
Overall I give this book a 3 out 5 stars. It could have been so much better, but some aspects just turned me off of the book majorly. So it turned out to be just okay not really great, or bad.

God, this was so bad, it surprised me that I read further than when I initially contemplated putting it down (at 8%!). And by putting it down, I mean throwing it against the wall.

I didn't care for the writing. At. All. It reminded me of my own old works of fanfiction. (Lots of literal descriptions about what happened, insta-lust as soon as the two MCs set eyes on each other in the book (even though they've known each other for a bit), and way too much info-dumps.)

The pacing was waaay too fast (and I'm a person that loves a fast-paced story), the entirity of what I read was about the stalker or how hot Rayne was. That was it. I just couldn't deal.

The "blossoming" relationship between Rayne and Christa was just downright awkward. They are both around thirty years old, yet they act like fourteen year-olds, love-struck only by the idea of the other person. The dude got a boner just looking at the bare skin of her waist when her shirt rode up a bit. And still, she claims that she feels comfortable and safe with him, even though he "makes her legs feel like jell-o"! If you're stammering and sweating and shaking when he gets near you, that's not really a definition of 'comfortable'.

There was so much talk about this stalker, there was no break in between. And when we, as readers, are reminded of this dude on every single page, there's no surprise or suspense on what happens next when the stalker strikes again. His perspective also showed up way too early in the story.

Also, the most annoying and enfuriating thing, BY FAR, was Christa. How can a person this dumb, this out of tune with her own instincts, be alive! Let's go out alone when you know there's someone watching you and you feel uncomfortable. Let's go have ONE self-defense lesson while you've not yet recovered from a concusion. Let's not bother other people with your feelings of fear, because 'what if it is not something weird or dangerous, god forbid people make fun of you, or something'. Let's go outside alone in the middle of the night when your dog's acting strange while the stalker is still out there. Perfectly logical actions, right? NO!

Rayne also has a couple of great one-liners by the way:

"Hey. Something spook you?" Yeah, no shit, Sherlock, there's a stalker out there. Which you actually warned her about when you told her that a stalker-case can turn out really bad.

"Be careful and don't let him get to you." Yeah, that's easy.

"I mean how pathetic is that? The one guy who wants me turns out to be a sicko." - "Maybe you're too busy to notice the ones that aren't sickos." Yeah, she's being stalked and threatened, of course she should have attention for you too. That's the least she could do, right? She doesn't have anything else on her mind.

All in all, one of the worst reads ever. I didn't mind the plot, but the writing was just juvenile, the pacing was off, the characters were dumb, none of these people made logical or practical decisions,
when she was kidnapped, I wasn't even going to be mad if she ended up killed
, and yeah, I just hated this so bad, I would give this a 0.1 star rating if I could.
