Solid conclusion. It had been quite awhile since I read Book 2 and my memories of the details were a little fuzzy, but Hicks did a good job of catching the reader up on the most necessary parts without it feeling expository. Still, I'd kind of like to reread the series in succession.

You know the episode of Avatar where they go and invade the Fire Nation on the Day of Black Sun, and it's an awesome episode, but the action and the very clear goals associated with this action make the episode feel really different from the rest of the series? It's not necessarily bad either; just different. There's a very similar vibe going on in this book. Because of the action certain other parts had to be very quick.

So good! I just wish I could have seen the Napatha as more than a weapon in the end, the ending felt just a tad rushed.

An excellent finale to what has been a most engaging graphic novel trilogy. With the General of All Blades out of the way, it would seem that The Nameless City and any chance of unity is lost but Rat and Kai have other plans.

When I read this I was so concerned that Erin Hicks wouldn't be able to tie all the threads together whilst maintaining the same pace and sense of excitement that she did in the other two. Rest assured though, this is a conclusion which is far more satisfying than any recent Star Wars trilogy.

This is a brilliant series and will appeal to so many, young smart readers. The politics is necessary but never muddies the narrative. This, more than anything, is a story about people, unity and fighting oppression.

A fine end of the series. A solid ending. Good characterization all the way through. And even some death and destruction. Readable. Good art. And kind of uplifting. And some combat I could appreciate. And chase scenes.

*The Divided Earth is the final book in Hicks' Nameless City trilogy which begins with The Nameless City and continues in The Stone Heart. This review contains spoilers for book one.*

The Nameless City is once again at the center of a conflict. Erzi, now General of All Blades, holds the city even as forces forces from his own ranks try to rally the Yisun to unite and overthrow him. The city's residents, the "Named," remain are caught in the middle.

What the invading forces don't know is that Erzi is determined to hold the city at any cost--even if it means destroying it. Desperate to prevent further bloodshed, Rat and Kaidu must join forces again to try and steal back the formula for deadly napatha before Erzi can use it to destroy everything they've come to love within the city walls in The Divided Earth (2018) by Faith Erin Hicks.

The Divided Earth is the final book in Hicks' Nameless City trilogy which begins with The Nameless City and continues in The Stone Heart.

After learning the city inside out and coming to love it as his own, Kaidu has to risk everything to help Rat save it. As forces approach the city Hicks expands the world of this series introducing new characters and further situating the Nameless City in a larger world.

While some of the character motivations remain thin, particularly in the case of the villains, this series is still utterly entertaining. Hicks' full-color artwork is used to especially good effect in this installment that is filled with high speed chases and fight sequences. The Divided Earth is a satisfying conclusion to a gripping, action-filled series. Recommended.

I love this series so much, and I love this conclusion so much. I swear every book is better than the last. Just read it, I don't have the words.

A very intense yet satisfying ending to the trilogy :) so action-packed!! I really liked how Hicks gave us enough information to understand and empathize with all of the prominent characters.
My favorite scene was the one where Setu welcomes Kai home with the words/ritual her father did with her mother. I am also glad that Setu and Kai remain friends and that Hicks did not add a romantic spin.

Very well ended trilogy. No questions left unanswered and a satisfying conclusion. I loved that Hicks even did a fast forward to the future of the city after the end of the story.

the art and colours are sooooo good!!!!
but TBH i feel like the ending was rushed. the conclusion came so quickly that it seems impossible, even for a fantasy GN like this.
all in all, i love this series! Kai & Rat forever!
