Tender like a bruise and oh- so complicated. I loved reading it, it's a very intelligent memoir that rarely attempts to flatten any anecdote. There is a insistence through out the book on its "realness"; how the story is a story with the fascinating setting and ironic plot beats, but it is also real, with real people who lived real events. And Bechdel tells this to you almost incredulously, as if she herself cannot believe it. And that's what the art of memoir is about babey!!!! 5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I'm not sure what to rate this yet.
Given that the story is about an abusive father with issues, it hit me right in the personal feels.
The art style was cool and the LGBT+ themes are right up my alley, but I didn't feel like I connected with it.
I found the constant references to books I hadn't read (or read so long ago that I had forgotten what happened in them) difficult to handle.
I feel like I didn't really get 25% of the book. I will keep thinking on it, maybe I'll re-rate it at some point
