I adore Towles, adore adore. 'Rules of Civility' was a perfect summer read and 'Eve in Hollywood' was stylistically just as gorgeous. My only problem is with its length - it was too damned short! Towles should not be allowed to pen short stories! I think Eve deserves her own full length novel.

Such a disappointment after the beauty of Rules of Civility. None of Eve's spunk made it through to this novella at all. Shame.

So happy I became a fan of Amor Towles early on as this story recently came to me via email. Eve was Rules of Civility protagonist Katy's bff and she left the novel midway to try her hand a career in Hollywood. Again, I am astonished by how well author Towles, a man, writes his female characters and the detail of this golden era of Hollywood is most enjoyable indeed.

Quick and fun. This book follows one of the main characters from Rules of Civility as she traipses around Hollywood after leaving NYC. I enjoyed meeting the new characters, each with distinct personalities, and seeing how they influenced Eve/vice-versa. And Eve herself has such spunk.

Reading this made me miss Amor Towles' excellent writing and his keen attention to detail. I want more! May need to revisit Gentleman in Moscow.

I only wish I had known it was essentially a collection of short stories before starting it - I was so disappointed when it suddenly ended, and I was confused by the disjointed nature of them. But as with Rules, great characters and so well written. I especially loved the evocation of a bygone golden age in LA. I too hope Towles has another in the works.

Delightful! Highly recommended for anyone who loved Rules of Civility.

I just really enjoy Towles' characters and the way they are layered against an excellent period background and setting. The prose is beautiful and although a little lackluster compared to Civility, still an enjoyable quick jaunt of a short.
