It was a good story no doubt. I enjoy when Royce and Hadrian are working together.

The beginning was a little slow, as it spent more time with Reuben than Hadrian and Royce. I do understand why but I don't care about Reuben. I'm here for Hadrian and Royce. I also do wish this had started immediately after the first book; I would have liked to see Hadrian and Royce's friendship grow, as well as Royce and Gwen's relationship, but that probably would have made for a more slow read with mostly just relationship stuff and not much else, so again, I understand why. Overall, still really enjoyed this book. Riyria books are becoming comfort reads to me, honestly. I've yet to not enjoy one.

I didnt wanna read this book because then that would make it official that there would be no more Riyria books to read. What a sad thing. It was nice to get to hear from so many perspectives, from people who you know dont get their say in the Revelations books. Basically, just keep em coming, I'm not even close to bored with this world.

Maybe my favorite Sullivan book so far.

Love it!

The second book of the series and it just gets better. New characters are introduced, and old ones are developed (I have become so weary about side characters in this series. They are often...unexpected).
I love that you get to see more of the darker sides of the story and the characters.

Mister Sullivan please, I'm begging you bro, you can't keep writing books that slap so hard. I can't take it anymore. At this point you're eating up all my 5 star ratings, aren't you full yet?????? How many more 5 ratings must I give???? I only have so many to spare 😭

This is my favorite Sullivan read so far. The interweaving plots and character motivations are fascinating. The schemes in this book that spill over to other Riyria stories are executed so well. Sullivan’s character development is getting stronger, and I’m excited to see where else he’ll take these characters and this world.

If I do actually have something to say about a book other than what my enjoyment factor was, I will write a review and share my thoughts. If I say I didn’t like a book but there wasn’t anything about it that I thought needed to be shared, then that’s it, I just didn’t like it.

If you’d like to start a discussion about a book or you’d like an actual review, ask any question you like and I’ll be happy to try and comply/respond.

Additional note; I do not feed the trolls. If you don’t have something constructive to say, or if you can’t say it in a respectful way, you won’t get a response from me. Ever.

He's gone and done it again. Michael J. Sullivan just pretty much slapped me across the face with his own book. Not in a bad way, but in a good way. The story was great and kept me positively engaged from start to finish, and then just frelling wholloped me in the face at the end.

I was unsure about "prequels" with the Riyria Chronicles. The first book, and now this one, have shown me that my worries were rather unfounded. My expectations were low, as some other prequels that I have read end up being contrived with characters mere shadows of themselves, with stuff being forced.

Not this. Not here. Not Riyria.

Do yourself a favor. Find these books. All of them. Read them.
