What a pleasant surprise. Wasn't sure what to expect since the reviews seemed a bit mixed but I honestly enjoyed the book. Super quick read but not in a bad way. There was enough story and plenty of descriptive detail. Already bought book two. Off I go.

Ok so I loved this story. I think my only complaint is how it ended because I wanted to read more and also it was kind of short. She should have made it a novel instead of a short story. Besides that though it was great.

I love the atmosphere and world of the book. It's dark and yet not in a morbid, creepy way more in a gothic way. This book was very much a gothic romance and it gives Anne Rice a run for her money. The uncharted island where vampires can live freely was a great idea. I love that this book shows that just like in humans not all vampires are sociopaths but they aren't glittery fairies either. They each have their own personality.

I especially loved Derek. Derek is the 'Savior' of vampires who has been asleep for hundreds of years through the spell of a witch. Viviene his sister and his brother Lucas kidnap Sofia for when Derek wakes up. Derek is actually pretty naive to the world which is surprising for a 500 year old vampire but considering how long he's been asleep that not surprising. I love how much he truly cares about his human companions and slaves. He is sweet, loyal, and caring. He can also be deadly, brutal, and a little scary when protecting those he loves. I truly loved reading the parts from his point of view.

Sofia she is the person I wish I could be. She is kind, caring, strong, and she makes the best of any situation. I tries to help everyone even those she fears or doesn't know. That scene where she grabs the hands of the scared girl next to her even though they've never met just so that the other girl wouldn't be so scared was great. She also is the most thoughtful person ever. She is scary smart when it comes to people and their emotions. She can manipulate anyone to do anything and yet never uses that talent to harm, hurt, or for selfish reasons ever. She is truly an inspiring character and a perfect match for Derek.

I loved their relationship. I loved watching it grow from fear and hatred, to love and friendship.

Vivienne is also an awesome character. I love her spunkiness, her creativity, and her love for her brother Derek. Lucas on the other hand is a villain you just have to love to hate. He is cruel, malicious, selfish, and a total asshole but I still can't completely hate him.

I'd have to say the best part of this book was the characterization and I recommend it to those who like short vampire romances.

Lately, I have been in a vampire mood—what with watching one of my fave shows True Blood (Pam and Eric foreverrrrr!!!!). However, is there a single vampire book that does not have a leading vampire that is so tormented over his or her existence to the point of being suicidal?!?

Almost as good as twilight

I love this series I am already on book 6. Anyone who likes vampires needs to read this. I recommend this book to anyone

A shade

It was a good read. Left a huge cliffhanger. Looking forward for the other books since I kind of want to see what's going to happen

Began this series after it being recommended by a friend since we liked Twilight and we were hooked. Read it in a couple hours and continued on with the next one right after. I personally hate spoilers in books but I will say, this is a must read for vampire lovers!

(4.5)
I really liked this book! Beautifully developed and written. And I really need to read book 2.

Literalmente es la sombra de un vampiro, porque no llega ni a comportarse como uno.

I lovedddddd this book so much! it was such a quick read for me and I enjoy quick and great reads. I can't wait to get the rest in this series to see what happens.

Ya know... pretty good.

Maybe it's because A Shade of Vampire reminded me of some vampy tv shows but I ended up liking this book. It was definitely fast paces, but that might've just been me and my sprinting.

In this book, you will meet Sofia. She's at a party one night and something happens between her and her best friend Ben. I guess they were going to take their relationship to the next level.. but it never happened. Well, she walks out crying and ends up at the beach. From there, she runs into Lucas. UGH LUCAS - I hate him so freaking much!

The next day (maybe) she wakes up. She's been kidnapped and she is thrown into this vampire harem for the waking prince. Once he awakes.. he looks into her mesmerizing eyes and basically says no to the harem and just wants her. It was interesting to see that happen and I wanted to know more about them.

WELL, I liked Derek and Sofia. They were cute and adorable. I'm just waiting for something to happen, like other than that kiss I got at the end. I want more from them. They got closer throughout this book - which, if I'm being honest would've probably happened to anyone that was kidnapped and constantly has their life threatened. AGAIN, UGH LUCAS!

I totally called that ending though but I also can't wait to dive into the next book.
