I tried, I really did. This was so hyped up, and I was intrigued there at the beginning. Silla just gets on my last nerve though. She knows that the drug will leave her impaired, but takes it anyway and can't believe she got ambushed. I totally get the "not wanting to deal with detoxing off of the drug" but it was just weirdly written in my opinion. The traveling scenes, cat and mouse chase, and the budding "romance" were drug out. It got to a point that I just didn't care anymore about any of it. I'm pretty sure I guessed all the "crazy twists" that was raved about and it was boring. I might try this again, but I doubt it.

I liked it! I instantly read book two after finishing. It started out pretty slow but ended up keeping me interested.

It’s not often I am blown away by a romantasy but I definitely was with this book. It was so well written that I was hooked every second of this book. There were literally no slow parts. No unnecessary dialogue. I felt deep connections with almost all the characters but in different ways, even the bad guys at some points.

The banter and romance was great. It felt like there ‘could be’ multiple possible romance options which was great for the tension. The plot was top tear and left you aching for more. The way we find out about the magic and politics of the world was top notch.

This one of the few romantasy books that I actually enjoyed the multiple point of views because it honestly helped me understand the characters personal motivations for their actions first hand, even if I didn’t agree with them all the time. And it was honestly refreshing to have a FMC and MMC that didn’t constantly have their head in the gutter when they thought of each other. I don’t know, it just came out more…respectful to the character archs.

I know one thing when I finished this book. I can’t wait to start the next book in the series and see where it leads our beloved characters next.

5⭐️’s.. This was a SOLID first book to the series!! Great character development, loved the Viking vibes, banter was top notch, witty and funny at times but also had depth. Going to dive into the second book.
