really wanted to like this one, but I felt like the characters were always mad at each other about the wrong things (the anger was deserved imo -- just misplaced!), and the discussions of professional sexism (a recurring theme/convo) really fell short for me. I appreciated the conversations about industry sexism that started (tho I could have used more a intersectional take), but the conclusions of those felt lackluster (like,
did the hero & other prominent characters /really/ reckon with their own sexism and actually change their speech/behaviors based on that? I think we're supposed to believe they did, but I'm not so sure.
) There were also a few discussions about sexuality that felt lowkey judgmental and, likewise, unresolved/unaddressed, which added onto the misplaced anger & lackluster sexism discussions for me.

Really enjoyed the narrator's vocal performance. She did a great job.

Things this book wants to be:
* Sexy
* Romantic
*Adventurous
* Feminist

What this book actually is:
* Cheese
* Disappointing
* Unbelievable
* Dull

This is not the palate cleansing, beach read I expected. Aside from being one of the least exciting romances I've ever read, this book is hugely problematic. Though we're led to believe that this book is about female empowerment, the author sadly employs all the tropes of 1970's Harlequin romances: love/hate relationship between the main characters, his flaws (lying, stealing, general asshole-ish behavior) make him more appealing, her success revolves around him rather than on her own merit.

This would certainly have been a DNF if I wasn't so compulsive about finishing everything I start.

I would've opted to mark this book as DNF had it not been this month's pick for book club. I doubt I'd pick this book on my own, so maybe I am not the intended audience, however to put it nicely, I was grateful to put this book down and I would not recommend it.

A quick fun read with interesting characters. I was expecting a lot more action, but it was still a fun read. There were some moments that I felt lagged a bit, but after a certain point, everything sort of picked up in action and conflict. The character growth worked out well for me in the end, but I was a bit put off by Corrieā€™s approach to dealing with her hyper sexualized image in her field. I'm not opposed to women owning their sexuality but she perpetrated the image and then complained when she wasn't taken seriously... I think if she was going to do that, then she should really not care about others' opinions and truly own it and her badassery. Because she was truly a smart AND sexy woman who had every right to be taken seriously. And Ford called her out on it, too... like why care about being seen as sexy? Own it and still kick ass! Anyways... that's my only gripe and reason why this wasn't a 5 star for me. Otherwise... I really loved the storyline and found myself rooting for Ford and Corrie to finally make it work. Highly recommend for fans of rivals to lovers and adventurous plots.
