Lord of the Fly Fest is a hilarious satire about influencer culture (and social media obsession) that made me laugh and broke my reading slump all at once. This book combines Lord of the Flies with the infamous Fyre Festival (the cheese sandwiches omg) and it was a quick enjoyable read. Also the cover is stunning! I saw a lot of people say that they didn’t like any of the characters, and honestly I think that’s the whole point. If you’re looking for a funny, satirical, YA mystery, I definitely recommend picking this up!

this book sucked ass

Well that sure was a book.

I’m genuinely not really sure what to think?  I went in knowing it was satirical, but maybe I’m just not a fan of satire, because things felt a bit unnecessarily convoluted and a bit mean. Which, I’m sure the meanness is the point of it being satirical, so that might be just me.

It was funny at some points, yes, and the pace was fast enough that it kept my interest and allowed me to speed through it, in like, three hours, which was cool.

It definitely wasn’t tense though, and near the end I just found myself somewhat bored. Overall it was alright, but I didn’t really enjoy it a huge amount, even as a book to hate-read.

tbh not what i was expecting, a little bit disappointed but still enjoyed this to a fair amount. if you like the idea of people going crazy after trapped in an island give it a read!

the narrator was fantastic otherwise this would have gotten a 2 for enjoyment too

I was so excited for this after The Mary Shelley Club being one of my all time favourite YA thrillers but this one kind of missed the mark for me as it's hyper-current satire, mostly a commentary on Fyre Fest. It's not that bad once you realise it's a piss take but the logic wasn't all there (why is Rafi virtually the only non-celeb?) and it wasn't thrilling in the slightest.
