Truly Devious is a mystery novel that lacks any mystery or plot until well over halfway through the book. It was okay, but I wish that the plot started earlier in the story and there much less buildup because really, NOTHING happened for 200+ pages.

All the character’s personalities blended together and there was just way too much description about everything to do with the dorms. Did I really need to know that Ellingham Academy offers free counseling and that you can schedule an appointment in person or online in their school’s app? Thank you so much for all that information!! I feel like I’m reading an email from my university. So…what about the plot?

The entire book was just buildup for a story that is going to actually come to fruition in the sequels. The book did have a good atmosphere, though. I liked the flashbacks to 1936 because they were not overbearing and they were sparsely added throughout the story. It was honestly more interesting than the present day story. My theory is that Alice and Iris disappeared on purpose, but I don’t know if I’m going to continue the series.

Irgendwie ist nichts passiert und am Ende wurde nichts abgeschlossen/aufgelöst? Die nächsten Bücher der Reihe sollen wohl besser sein, vielleicht war das Buch nur die Einleitung… aber dafür 400 Seiten?
