Not sure if this is a true 5 star read but I've listened to it and read it so many times, that I couldn't justify giving a lower rating.
Things I appreciated about this book;
-Tessa is a strong female lead who does anything and everything for those around her. Amos recognizes this and provides a haven for Tessa, so once she walks through his door; she can take the weight of the world off her shoulders for once.
-The characters' ages!! As someone in their mid twenties, I cannot relate to these 19-21 year old leads, so I appreciated a romance between people in their early 30s and 40s.
-The unconventional beauty! I have no doubt Tessa is a beautiful character, but I was happy to see her stand out from other female leads I've come across. Tessa has a healthy appetite and the curves to show it! She isn't the typical cool -girl paradox, who eats likes a machine, but maintains a waif, girlish figure. And Amos isn't some unrealistic 6'5 foot, 250 lbs rolling muscle head. I was very found of Tessa's description of her corn fed, undead farmboy-lover of similar height to her.
-Lastly, I really loved the vampire culture/lore here. It was unique and unlike any other I've seen. Rather than the human having to either be turned or only live a fraction of their immortal lover's life; the vampire's venom regenerates them and allows for an equal lifespan.

This book starts with a vampire nervously arranging flowers while waiting for a human blood donor to arrive. I loved that and it immediately caught my interest.
This book was quite sweet although now a week later I'm struggling to remember many of the details.
I do remember thinking that the werewolf bit seemed a bit forced and didn't make a lot of sense. But as this is book 2 in a series and I hadn't read the first, maybe it ties into something from the first book OR is used to set up something in a future book.
Minor annoyance only.

Amos is my favorite kind of MMC. He is a cinnamon roll that bites. Consent king, communication king, treats his FMC like a queen, gets a little stabby at anyone who brings her harm. The ending was sweet, but I wish we could have learned more about their “adopted son”

DNF. FMC just felt too cliched and I wasn't feeling it. I think RH has ruined for me for pairings.

Tessa, the eldest daughter of an Italian-American mom and a Mexican-American dad is working her fingers to the bone trying to support her mom and get out of the medical debt incurred while her father was dying. She's working night shifts as a hospice nurse and living with her overbearing mother, and to boost her income she signs up to be a blood supply for a vampire.
Amos is a vampire who has not had blood from a live person in 100 years and signs up to have a human donor come to his house. He's got strong principles and mostly avoids being involved in the shady politics of the vampire council and most of the other vampires in Chicago, but is close with his dam and her human bloodmate who seem like really cool people. He becomes very protective of Tessa just at the time that the city is experiencing an uptick in supernatural problems--namely, werewolves and the numerous illegal thralls created by Alex (the problem vampire from book #1!).
The conflicts in this story are mostly external-- there's attacks, Tessa's mom's situation, the vampire council. Amos is very thoughtful and protective of Tessa. One of my issues with the book is that Tessa has no friends of her own other than her coworkers, but it's realistic in this case I think. I really liked the pacing of the story and honestly just felt so much love and relief for Tessa, she deserves the best! I went on a little bit of a Guerre binge over the weekend and this was my favorite but I do recommend checking out the first in this series as well.
Some big CWs apply. I think it's perfect for fans of Ruby Dixon! Amos is very similar to a lot of her male MCs and the humor is similar.
And after some of the Romance discourse lately... behold! A man of average height!

Tessa’s father passed away from cancer and left behind an insurmountable amount of debt that only Tessa can seem to solve. As a way to get ahead, she becomes a blood donor where she meets Amos, a kind, polite, old-fashioned vampire who has not tasted live blood in over a century. Since turning, Amos has given up hope in ever finding someone who could be his blood mate.
After the first meeting, there is instant chemistry and as their professional relationship grows, Tessa feels something more. This is the first person to really take care of and notice her. She is usually so overworked trying to fix everyone else’s problems that Amos’s attention is just what she needs. Could this be the blood mate Amos is looking for? Will Tessa what to give up so much for potential happiness forever?

This was really pleasant to read. Wholesome, cute. Mildly spicy.
Not too in-depth world building but just enough to appreciate the scenery.
Any conflict that arose was brief and quickly resolved.
I feel like this was a really good premise. My first vampire romance, but I think I would have enjoyed more substance. I mean, it still packed a lot in for a short book… action-wise. I think I would like another book like this but with more angst. More character development? Idk, I can’t really tell what is good vs bad character development. I guess it happened. Amos… was always a good guy. He didn’t have much to overcome. And Tessa had to confront her family and tell them no, but she’s already pretty confident and established. She won over the council with one sentence, she made friends with vampires… eh, maybe angst wasn’t the point of this book. It delivered some conflict but it’s not supposed to be a really emotional book. It couldn’t be too stale with no conflict, but you’re not there to suffer too much.
I like this book the way it is, but I want a version of it that fucks me with emotionally until the HEA.

This really isn't a bad book. But it's the second time I tried to read it but it just failed to capture my attention. I enjoy the beginning but the couple starts to date half way and everything is sunshine and rainbows. I never really liked books where people just have a healthy and boring dating life lol. Even the fact that he's a vampire couldn't save it for me.

4/5 stars ⭐ This scratched an itch I've had since Choosing Theo. I stayed up until 3am last night because I was so obsessed and couldn't put it down. Loved their introduction and the boodmate concept. I only took off one star because I didn't really care about the end plot at all, so the last couple chapters dragged for me. But damn, their chemistry was just
