Wow! What an epic family saga. I just loved it.
This is one "classic" that really holds up.
I can't wait to watch the movie. (I know, how did I go this long without seeing it?)
I would guess that it was perfectly cast based on knowing who is in the movie as I read the book.
This counts as a book written the year you were born for the 2015 PopSugar Reading Challenge.

General Overview
Better then the incredible film adaptation, [a:Mario Puzo|12605|Mario Puzo|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1379918709p2/12605.jpg]'s The Godfather now firmly sits in my Top 5 reads of 2020. A gripping and deeply human novel, this book is a must read.
Style
Reading like any good crime novel or thriller, the distinguished Mr Puzo brings great scene feel, and characterization to all whom we meet in this first installment of his mafia trilogy. Feel well researched, the author easily brings us back to the time of the novel. It just has this great stylized feel throughout.
The weaving meandering threads and plots blend together perfectly. Telling this story from multiple perspectives, and from multiple narrative styles, aids the smooth flow of the overall story, and adds to the feel of the many schemes in the book. Only the Great Don himself could have brought them all together so well in the closing chapters.
Mr Puzo's book is graphic, both in its sexual and violent scenes. Neither feel gaudy, or crass, despite how vivid they are. Any such scenes fit the work perfectly, and only add to the complete piece.
Story
Following the rise of Michael Corleone, the distant son of The Godfather, head of the most powerful Mafia family in America, we see that as the Don puts its, 'Every man has but one destiny.' The conflict in Michael towards his father and the family business changes as the novel moves on, covering a 50 year period.
Not being kept just to the gang writh streets of post WW2 New York, the story delves into the rise of Don Corleone himself, and further beyond to characters outside of the family. It is all superbly written, and is a great story when covered from so many varied views and in some beautifully described settings.
If you have seen the film, you know the plot. The film is a very good retelling of the book, but, as with most of these things, the book is able to add so much more. Luco Brazie is a perfect example of this. A somewhat small character in the film, his true ferocity, and the terror he inspires in even The Godfather is better explain and covered then the film was able to.
Final Thoughts
An epic, a masterpiece in feel and drama. Delve into the world of organised crime in this truly great novel by a master writer. You will not be disappointed.

Puzo is a great writer, But in need of a lot more editing. When it's the core family members and gangster going ons, Perfect. Everything else [which there is a bit of] Just doesnt fit as nicely with the counterpart as the author believes. Stick to the movie unless your a mega fan. You really aren't missing to much
Livro intemporal e marcante.

The book is exactly like the movie. Dialogue is the same, scene order is the same, bullet hike positions are the same. Coppola just literally made each page into direct script and shot it.
