Closer to two and a half stars.... I liked the dogs but the romance was not convincing. I didn't care if they got back together or not. I started this one a couple years ago and got sick of it, and it felt a little flat this time too. This author has been hit or miss for me - some of her books I absolutely love but others leave me wanting a lot more.

This book is definitely a solid choice for the dog-obsessed reader. Unfortunately that's not really me lol. I didn't mind the story overall but nearly all of the characters annoyed me so much. Her parents were the woooorst in very different ways. I wasn't surprised by the ending either. Very little romance too.

I devoured this book in the latter half of the day as I spent the first half devouring 'The Cure for the Common Breakfast', another of Beth Kendrick's books.

I had planned to read a little, and the read some other books in my pile, but this caught a hold of me and wouldn't let me go until I finished.

What I really like about Beth Kendrick's books, and especially this one is that her characters are not only flawed, but aware of their flaws and deal with them in realistic fashion, whether it's too ignore them, pretend they don't exist, or try to face them head on. Lara is no exception and as the novel progresses you see her grow stronger while at the same time staying true to who she has always been.

I've noticed that in this novel (as in some of her others) the mother figure is a workaholic fashion addict who spends a good bit of her time with her daughter criticizing her. However, Kendrick doesn't let Justine (the mother) become lost under her flaws either. Over the course of the novel, despite the hardness of her words and the seemingly careless attitude to her daughters wants and needs, Justine is revealed to more than her rough exterior, just like her daughter Lara is revealed to be more than a soft push over.

All in all, I really enjoyed this books and not only did it leave me wanting to read more Beth Kendrick novels, it also left me really wanting to get a dog - my dog soul mate.

I love Beth Kendrick's books. They are always enjoyable and light hearted and just what I need. My only "issue" with this one was that it was so heavily dog focused. One might say "duh, its about a dog matching service," but I still didn't expect it to be as heavily focused as it was. That being said, once I did get into the story, it stopped bothering me and I was genuinely surprised by the ending. I definitely recommend any and all of her books.

Disappointing. The synopsis on the back is not an accurate description of what happens. The book is not a deliciously frothy chick lit sprinkled with puppies. Instead it's a meandering tale of a woman dealing with her family issues. With the exception of her mother, there is little to no character growth and the storyline about her father was completely unnecessary. The best friend was strange since the author sort of gave her a story arc with a potentially absent husband but then never resolved it. (Because, hey, as long as she's not overwhelmed by her newborn, everything's cool right? Whatever.) The attempt at a love story was painfully disappointing as well. Despite worrying about being "homeless", the main character was never in any real danger of anything. Everything she ends up with falls into her lap.

I picked this book up on a whim because cute dogs, and I liked the premise of a matchmaker for people and dogs. I ended up loving the story, and I enjoyed watching Lara's journey with her mother, father, Kerry, and of course all the dogs. I was slightly disappointed with how the characters' love lives went. I wanted to see what happened with Kerry and her husband because it comes up a lot, but sadly it just disappears without resolution. I also didn't really care to see Lara end up in a relationship as the end of the book. She was starting a new business and about to buy a house, but we end with romance? Disappointing but it didn't ruin the story. The story was funny, and I liked the cast of characters. I'll be looking for more of Kendrick's books.

Cute, easy read. Some of the details didn't quite line up, but it didn't really affect the story.
