Moon did a good job of wrapping up the war effort and other plot points in this last of the Vatta series. I did think she left some things hanging and have hopes that she will maybe continue the series with one of the other characters as the central figure. Perhaps Stella?

All-in-all a great military sf series. Can't wait to see what Moon does next.

Bottom line: I really enjoyed this series. Not ground-breaking, but everything about this series is solid.

The character development, plot, action, and military/political setup are solid, and this consistently better-than-adequate "quality," combined with how fun the series is, and fantastic (and discernibly different an believable) female characters, makes this a great read. I binged these suckers like I would marathon sci-fi television.

Vatta's War doesn't take itself too seriously, and it's not trying to be DEEP, though it does have both poignant moments and interesting space opera politics sometimes. The series has a pretty standard trajectory, more commonly seen with female protagonists in fantasy series (which makes sense, since Elizabeth Moon killed the fat fantasy genre before writing this space opera series), of a young girl with a lot of potential maturing as she's thrown into circumstances bigger than herself. There's a love interest thrown in, but it's not a huge element, and everyone likes a rogue-ish space spy.

Worst last line in a book series ever. So corny. Also I got a bit lost in the space battle but that may have just been due to having Covid while reading it. Overall I enjoyed this series but the first and last books were a bit weaker than some of the middle books.

Rating: A very satisfying ending to a great series.

Ky Vatta, failed student and one of the few Vatta survivors after her family is attacked at home and in space, has morphed into a cool and calm not to mention deadly enemy to the pirates attempting to take control of her world. They should run while they still can.

Really interesting characterization, a fully imagined world, and complex plotting has made this a great series.

Wow. This book was a total let down. I was expecting amazingness, and this pile of "meh" is all I got. It's like the author decided she was just done with the series and just wrapped everything up as quickly and easily as possible. The bad guy that we've been tracking down for 4 books now is gone just like that. All the love issues, dealt with. And when we have a ship full of awesome characters and the author has no clue how to wrap them all up? Kill them all! Yep. That happens. Really and truly, I'm almost mad that this is what Elizabeth Moon felt was an acceptable end to this series.
