This is an emotionally power packed story from a cat’s perspective. Nana, a stray, is adopted by Sotaru and five years later they’re travelling to find a new suitable home for Nana.
Nana gets her name from her hooked tail that looks like number 7 which is nana in Japanese.
The story is beautifully told, descriptions will take you on a journey of your own and you’ll definitely shed a tear or two or maybe a waterfall.
This story is about friendships, relationships, love, sacrifices, situations in life that make us the person we become and above all it’s a story of a cat who was able to see and feel all this.
It’s a short read so a weekend is all you need.
Some of my favourite lines:
Distant relatives you hardly ever see are, to a child, like total strangers. Friends are much closer. Why don't adults understand that?
From my first experience of the sea, I learned a valuable lesson. The sea is where you go to reminisce when you are far away from home.
If you have to consider what's going to happen after you die, life becomes doubly troublesome.
No other animal in the world would try to defy the laws of nature, but humans are a very peculiar species.

This I really different than what I usually read, but I unexpectedly really liked it! It was sad but also I liked how it talked about our relationships with one another and how they last even with distance. The main POV being from the was unexpected, slightly confusing at first but in the end I liked it. I found the lack of communication between characters quite frustrating at times, but still really recommend this book!

Easily a new top 5 read for me.
There's something about these introspective Cat books that just sits so perfectly right with me.
Told from the cat's point of view as he and his owner travel together in search of a new home for the cat, this book tells a story of loyalty, love, and loss all centered around the cat's perspective- this book will have any cat lover sobbing by the end of it.
I am in love. I will keep a special place on my shelf for this. The Travelling Cat Chronicles will hold a place in my reading journey for some years to come.
1000000/5 absolutely would recommend

This was such a touching story. We're told it's about a man, Satoru, going on a trip with his cat Nana, but we're not told why. The parts narrated by Nana are an absolute delight. You meet a lot of people along the way and you learn about how their lives intersected with Satoru's, getting to know them, and him, a little bit better every time.
The older men in this book, usually the fathers, tend to be rigid, stoic, and insensitive; these traits thankfully almost disappear in the younger generation of men, especially in Satoru, who is the sweetest man on the planet. A very bittersweet ending, with a little bit of a Studio Ghibli flair to it.

Beautiful, beautiful story that brought tears to my eyes at the end (very few books can do that). Now I want to go to Japan even more. ❤️
