Hot Pursuit is a good fit for those seeking a romantic adventure with a lighthearted tone and a fast-paced, action-packed plot that explores themes of second chances, redemption, and the challenges of opening oneself up to love after past heartaches.

Christian Watson, is a former SAS officer, he has never had a desire to return to England after an operation gone wrong. However, with the hunt for Spyder, he has had to return and his past is coming to the surface with a couple of brothers seeking revenge. Fighting to survive is a daily occurance for Christian, but when Emily is in the mix his concentration is not all that it should be.

Emily lost her job at the CIA because of a colleague turned rogue and she doesn't date men from work. When the brothers want to see Christian dead she questions that and eventually sees that she can have both. Ever since the two of them have met they have been drawn to each other and she can't seem to fight her feelings anymore.

While I always love reading the BKI series, this one just didn't do it for me. I'm used to the action packed storyline with the bad guys always potentially out there. This one, not so much, I feel it mainly focused on the relationship between Christian and Emily and we got to see Angel a bit more. I liked the story but it wasn't one to really catch my attention.

Received ARC in exchange for honest voluntary review from NetGalley.

It's been awhile since I've read any of the stories in Black Knight, Inc series but I didn't have any trouble picking up the storyline here - easy to read as a standalone but you'd be missing out if you don't read the others too!

I really enjoyed the character development in this one - I felt like we really got to know most of the characters here (not just the MC's) and loved the interaction between them all. As Emily says in the story, all of the characters are "...the people I've come to think of as family." So it's not surprising when there's some disagreements but also friendly joking around. And, the best part, there's that trust you get from knowing the others around you not only have your back, but want what's best for you.

And that's one of the best parts of this story - these are individuals who have been through very dangerous, terrible circumstances, and yet the have a close camaraderie that just makes them all more real to the reader. It definitely draws you into their stories.

Needless to say, watching Christian and Emily, and their "bickering and squabbles" and yes, their undeniable attraction to one another, was the main event in this one. Really a great story to watch unfold - funny, sad, poignant and hot - along the way. If you like suspense, romance, hotness and strong characters, this is one for you!

Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for an advance reader copy in exchange for an honest review.

Christian and Emily have made it their hobby to tease and rib each other. No matter the scenario, including the life and death one they have found themselves in, they always have time to joke around while attempting to hide their burning attraction for each other. But life and death puts their situation in to a new perspective and the chance to jump on those feelings is something they cannot pass up. Emily has never seen herself as a forever kind of woman, can Christian show her that taking a chance on him is the best gamble she'll ever make? Another great read in the Black Knights Inc. series, those maybe not as action packed as previous reads. These have been two beloved characters throughout the series so seeing them finally get their HEA was a fun read. Sad that the series is almost to an end!

The series continues to spark. Finally getting Christian's story and boy does it deliver. In the midst of being stranded and trying to stay under the radar Christian and Emily finally give into their chemistry. This one was a long time coming, almost as good as Boss and Becky. This book is fast paced and packed full of cloak and dagger stuff with plenty of between the coverlet times as well... come on they were in the UK. The lingo is very important. And to top it all off we get a little more background on the additional BKI guys and closer to unraveling the mystery of the elusive Spider.

Hot Pursuit picks up right where Fuel for Fire left off. Our intrepid heroes are struggling to get back to the good ol USA but hiding out in not so Jolly Ol England has them running again. All this running has put some things in perspective for former SAS officer Christian Watson. He has always wanted smart mouthed office manager Emily Scott but she has never given him an inkling that she was interested. It takes his cohorts to convince him that her snark is her way of flirting. Running for your lives is probably not the best time to hit on a lady but when has Christian ever do anything the easy way.
This is a high energy, laugh out loud love story that will leave you with a smile and looking forward to the next installment.

From the first moment we saw Emily Scott and Christian Watson together they have been sniping at each other and it has yet to stop, and I have loved it from the very beginning. Sadly, while I loved these two characters I think their book fell short for me.

First I will start with the plot. I think this was probably the weakest BKI book in regards to suspense and the overall Spider plot. There is literally only a sliver of progress against Spider because most of the plot is focused around Christian and the group trying to get out of the UK and back to Chicago. Also a big issue for me was that the group breaks into a historical house that is used for tours and uses the furniture like it's modern and nothing gets broken. My archivist brain was screaming at the damage being done in this house and it just pulled me out of the story.

Emily is a character that I have loved since she was introduced but while I love her snark, I found she didn’t have much personality outside of that in this book. While she does mention her parents neglecting her, she barely talks about her childhood but pressures Christian into telling everything, which I found to be a bit ridiculous. Emily’s reason for pushing Christian away was stupid and made me very irritated at her. Also the dialogue and banter from Emily in this book was sometimes cringy. While I still like Emily, her actions did limit my enjoyment of this book.

We finally get to learn more about Christian and why he left England for BKI. Christian’s story was very heartbreaking and explains a lot of his actions, and his wardrobe. I actually really liked Christian in this. He had more personality and wasn’t just the well dressed BKI member. I also really liked that once he admitted his feelings he didn’t hold back and was determined to win Emily over. Christian and Emily’s relationship was not my favorite. It felt a bit drawn out, probably because they just keep getting interrupted by attacks, other members of BKI, or their own stupidity.

This book also gives us a bit of a second relationship with Ace and Rusty flirting it up for at least a little while. We do learn a little of Ace’s backstory and why he is so upset about Rusty being in the closet. Their story is still not resolved by the end of this book so hopefully we will see some resolution in the next book. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book and see the final BKI member, Angel, fall in love.

CW: torture, violence, child abuse, brief mention of conversion therapy; homophobic parents; gun violence; alcoholic parents mentioned; death of parents mentioned; death of a spouse mentioned;

I think this one, Hot Pursuit, is one of my favorite BKI books yet! Christian and Emily were so fun and I loved their witty banter. They were a great match.

And the action scenes were fun, too!

Bound to be another Julie Ann Walker re-read for me.
