It was a good story, though it really didn't seem very science fictiony.

Amaryllis lives on another planet, where humans colonized but where they got cut off from earth. The colonists developed psychic abilities that help them survive. These abilities have to be used in pairs -- with one person being the "prism" who focuses the talent of the other. Amaryllis is just such a prism, one dedicated to the high moral principles of her field. But her resolve is testee when Lucas Trent, an off the chart talent, hires her and they uncover a politician misusing his talent to manipulate the vote--and that when they use their abilities together they are strongly attracted to one another. [return]The exotic local and psychic abilities of the protaganists add a lot of flavor to this romance, though the way the author has them name things (tea-coff) can be kind of jarring. It's a good read for a romantic escape.

Amaryllis is a prism, a person who can focus the power of other people to make it more effective. Rather accustomed to a clerical way of living, her life changed completely after her meeting with Lucas Trent, a psychic-man who hides a big secret ...
The huge problem with this book are the characters : I don't get attached to them, hell I don't give a damn about them !! They were bland, tasteless and I didn't care a bit what could happen to them. The heroine was annoying at best and the hero was not really useful. The romance was also too artificial ... In addition, I found some similarities with the Psy-Changeling series but unfortunately it's more like a bad copy more than anything else ...
The story was a bit farfetched and the investigation was not really interesting (and not useful AT ALL !!) and if the end was surprising ... Well in fact, I didn't really care about the true culprit xD
Yet the universe that the author creates is extraordinary : a distant colony with advanced technologies, a society based on marriage and family and some weird psychic powers >< It got potential !!
In short, I think I'd read the next book because I loved the world but I hope that the next characters will be better !!

Told with her trademark sense of humor, adventure and love this, the first in a trilogy is a truly fun read. Jayne Ann Krentz writing as Jayne Castle builds an incredible world and you are a sucked into it and don’t want to leave even after the last page has turned. Opposites attract and fall in love against all odds. Off to read the next in the series.

I can't believe I missed these. I decided to to a re-read in anticipation of [b:Guild Boss|57155093|Guild Boss (Ghost Hunters, #14)|Jayne Castle|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1619761629l/57155093._SY75_.jpg|89457425]. I noticed I missed the St. Helen's books.

You can definitely tell that this is an older book, but I really enjoyed this one. Lucas is great, Amaryllis takes a bit to get used to. She's headstrong, and VERY naïve. Lucas finds himself wanting to be around her, even if she frustrates him to no end.

She's obsessed with a talent being used "unethically", and goes to great length to investigate her mentor's "accidental" death ... dragging Lucas along for the investigation.

A great introduction to "Off the scales" talent & prisms on a Earth colony left behind when the curtain fell.

I picked up this series because Ilona Andrews mentioned they were a fan.
At start it seemed like a cliched pnr but after some time I got into the story. I liked the chemistry between characters. And the world really intrigues me, I must find out more.
