Why do I tend to love romances in the first half when the guy is chasing the girl but then slowly lose interest when they're together? Who knows but this book managed to be good even when he got the girl.

I know this book is going to make me regret giving up the violin in high school, but I have to know what the cello scene is

Not Another Love Song might be my favourite romance of the year. Maybe I’m just overly excited because the genre has been a huge letdown for me in recent months—but I really hope that’s not the case.
The story is simple: a cello falls in love with a violin. And it’s heartbreakingly beautiful. When music is combined with love, it feels more like obsession—and I was completely here for it. The writing was excellent, and the character development just as strong. I loved their dynamic and all the yearning.
They clash early on, and usually I don’t enjoy that kind of setup—it often feels like it’s just about physical attraction—but this time, I absolutely devoured it.
If you’re not into the music angle, this might not be the book for you. But if you are, it’s magical.

Finished this book in one sitting! It TOTALLY reads like a rom com movie. I loved the relationship between the FMC and her gay bff.
MMC was okay. I didn’t really buy into their romance. I’m not a fan of instant love. I am also a musician/music educator and appreciate the musical references but sometimes it just seemed like Soto googled “famous musician/composer” and picked the top 3.
Overall it was an easy, fun read.

🎹 From the very first page, I was completely immersed. The prose flowed with the same elegance and rhythm you feel in a live musical performance. Julie Soto wrote this story in a way that lets you hear the notes between the lines. I loved how her vivid descriptions set the mood for every emotional beat, making the characters’ journey feel alive and authentic.
🎻 The pacing was just right, there was tension in every scene, but it never felt too rushed or too melodramatic. The writing also brought the musical collaboration to life, you could feel the chemistry between the main protagonists when they played together.
💕 While I wasn’t totally sold on the third-act breakup, it did pack a hard emotional punch which momentarily threw me off, but what followed was beautifully earned. The resolution was deeply satisfying, weaving together themes of growth, vulnerability, and artistic passion in a seamless finale. I stayed engaged from beginning to end.

2.5 - DNF’d at 87% - really was enjoying this at the beginning and made quick progress before slowly losing interest. I liked aspects of the orchestral background but the inaccuracies took away from my enjoyment a bit (coming from someone who used to rock the viola back in the day). overall wasn’t bad, might circle back to it at some point, but definitely not any time soon
