Rereading a book first visited at school. A beautifully written tale of adventures, survival and friendship. Michael Morpurgo is one of my favourite authors and Iā€™m enjoying revisiting his books as an adult. The story is told through the eyes of Michael, who keeps you engaged as he tells his tales from his round the world trip on the Peggy Sue with his family to his discovery of Kensuke and his kingdom. Well worth a read.

Read this mostly towards the end with C. Morpurgo likes to write about tragic events in a way that children can understand and this certainly caused both engagement and horrified consternation. Beautifully written and very sad.

DNF.
I think if I was younger, I would love this story, but I'm now in my 30s and I can't finish this. It's so boring.

I first read Kensuke's Kingdom in year five in primary school. I can remember loving it and constantly being ahead of the class when we had to read it out loud. Re-reading it as an adult, I can see why it was a success with school children. The story is short and sweet and emotional. I wanted Kensuke to reunite with his family and the PS at the end about michael meeting his son made me tear up both as a ten year old and a twenty one year old.
