Loved this book! It made me emotional. Books and reading are so powerful - I’d reread this in a heartbeat.
I got 24% through. I'm not sure what I was expecting but this book feels like a bit of a wank. They're very much preaching to the choir with all the "Oooh, the magic of books!" and "Reading is so great!" and whatnot. I found it weird that James Patterson was mentioned and fawned over multiple times. I've never read a single one of his books before this and I don't feel inclined to now. I would have liked some juicier stories instead of the same old thing repeated by every book seller and librarian. One of them said something to the effect of life is too short to read books you aren't loving. So I quit.
"libraries don’t make parenting decisions, and parents shouldn’t make library choices for everyone else’s children"
this is a very reassuring read that yes, I am in the right career. A lot of it feels very romanticized, but to be fair, it is an easy world to romanticize. The only problems I really have with this collection is James Patterson. 1. it's James Patterson. 2. the amount of stories I believe he chose simply because it mentions him. 3. the organization of this is abysmal and simply nonexistent. 4. I would've liked stories from people outside of American and Canada. 5. it's James Patterson

As a librarian, this book gave me all the feels and was EXACTLY what I needed. But as a Florida librarian, James Patterson doesn’t walk the talk. So the plugs for him left me slightly like “ehh” haven’t seen it.
If you like reading and books about books and readers, this is for you. It was too long, though, and got a bit repetitive. It needed either better editing or to be cut in half.
I enjoyed the book vignettes, and, felt like I had heard enough and was ready to move on
