If you’ve ever wondered what it’s like to be a librarian or bookseller, this book is a romp of a good time. My dreams are not deterred. In fact, I’m dreaming of it more now than ever.

It was interesting and a bit inspiring, but also I totally am not the type to be able to own a bookstore, no matter how appealing it seems! Although it does have me wondering if perhaps I should have gone the public library route rather than academic post-library school.

Candy for booklovers

I loved the stories about the impact that libraries and bookstores have on peoples lives. There were several stories by librarians who have gone through vicious book banning situations.

Knocking off two stars because there were too many stories by people who were just bragging about their own accomplishments. I unfortunately know and have worked for librarians like this and it's very off-putting. Libraries are for helping people, not personal gain.

This was a quick, sweet non-fiction read. Each story is brief and nothing gets too in depth, which did leave me wanting more from certain stories, but it was a nice celebration of the world of booksellers and librarians.

As gentle & relaxing as you might expect

A collection of real-life anecdotes from librarians and booksellers. First and foremost, they love their jobs. They love books, they love helping people find books that they love, and they love talking about books with their patrons. They want to read and want to share what they’re reading with others. They love being a part of the community and helping out. They love getting people excited about books, and especially getting kids excited about books. They love working with authors and meeting authors. They are concerned about the rising book bans in the U.S., but they are thrilled that readers are pushing back against them.

A fun collection of personal anecdotes, though they are very stream-of-consciousness and feel repetitive at times. Also, there were different sections like the stories were supposed to be separated by theme, but there didn’t really seem like any organization at all. But still a fun read.

(I read this in small chunks while reading other books to break it up a little).
