I KNEW IT!!
I am so glad the two main characters worked out. I was not expecting the ending exactly but I knew it. I don’t want to give any spoilers away but I am happy with how the story progressed and ended. Thank you.

I'm going to be honest this books kind of repeats itself at times and I didn't like that but I stuck through the ending was interesting but I don't know I just really didn't like this book sorry :(

I was really intrigued by the premise of the first book and couldn’t wait to dive into this one. Unfortunately, it started off very slow, and I was left wanting more from the climactic battle at the end. There were missed opportunities for the protagonist to prove herself and for the king to truly step up.

In my ideal ending, Lilac and the king would have faced the big bad together (I read this book a while ago and I can’t recall exactly what the creature was), faking her death in the process so she could disappear. The king, now reformed after saving his kingdom, would take his role more seriously, while she and Cal could reunite in a secluded cabin in the woods to live a peaceful, happy life. Let’s be honest—Lilac from book 1 was never meant to be confined to castle life.

First and foremost, one perspective is written in first person and the other perspective is written in third person, which is a literary crime in my opinion. Also, the entire book is the epitome of high school drama and the characters were so annoying I almost developed a nose bleed.

I was very disappointed with this book. Even the ending was meh.

Idk what this was supposed to be but it ended up being the most anticlimactic sequel I ever read. I was almost tempted to give it 2 stars but despite everything I still care for the characters and just could not give a book with them in it 2 stars.

If disappointment was a concrete object.

Pre-Review:

THIS COVER. THIS BLURB. It's killing me.

I soldiered through this book, hoping it would finally allow us to see the intricacies of Cal and Laila's relationship. It did not. I skimmed the whole thing because it was basically a long drawn out repeated 'I'm jealous and they hate me and actually love this person' and it was insufferable. The ending was mostly good, very rushed and felt like it didn't actually address the main issues dealt with in this book. We're almost in the same place we were at the end of book 1.
