Gonna take a break from this one. My skip the line loan is expiring and I never could get into this. It was taxing.

Such a very slow start. I know she’s setting up a new series but I’m finding it hard to read Balogh now as the recent books have become so sentimentalized. It’s heartbreaking because she’s been such a favorite author for me over the years but this new series seems to be following the Westcott mode which was so saccharine that I just had to stop. DNF

There’s something about the first book in Balogh’s series. She does such a good job, world building, and introducing all of the characters for the rest of the series, that the main plot and the main characters for the first book are basically worthless. in a few weeks I won’t be able to tell you much about these main characters, but I’ll probably be able to tell you a lot about the rest of the characters from the rest of the series.

The first in the series of the Ware family. This is the heirs story.

Remember Love had a good premise and sympathetic leads (though I was annoyed at Devlin for his word choice whilst confronting his father's mistress) but I think suffered a bit due to pacing. I would have preferred more time spent in the latter half of the book and less time spent on the buildup in the former. In terms of editorial choices, I do understand the thinking behind setting the perceived perfection of Devlin's world, but I think it was too much. I also think too many pages were devoted to describing the splendour of Ravenswood. Despite these criticisms, I did like the book and I am a fan of Balogh's internal monologues. I am looking forward to reading Philippa's story when it comes out this spring/summer.
