Enjoyable enough. Borrows a LOT from "Buffy".

Meg Cabot has a talent. A true talent. She has the talent to write stories about teenagers and to make them actually sound like teenagers, to make them actually act like teenagers. Just like the Princess Diaries series and just like the first book in this series the voice used to tell this story is just amazing. There's some sass, there are some irresponsible comments and at times I just can't hide the smile and my shaking head.

I also really like the difference in mediating techniques, where Suze quite clearly is just a teenager. She's not very happy with the random disturbances, she just wants to get things over with and she's rarely doing proper research so she jumps to conclusions. Does that mean that at times she's a little rude? Totally. Does that make her a true YA character starring in a YA novel? Totally. I'm already looking forward to reading the next one!

The plots aren't the greatest and they definitely sometimes leave more questions than answers, but it's a quick, easy read. Suze drives me a little crazy but I love her sarcasm and dry sense of humor. I mean it is what it is but it's not terrible and I still find myself enjoying reading these.

My only gripe is how Suze's mom can't seem to accept her as she is. I can understand why Suze feels the need to lie to her mom. Her mom only seems excited when Suze is acting like she did in high school. Other than that, not the best, but definitely not the worst.

I picked this book up because I wanted a quick, easy read and this delivered flawlessly. The entire text is written as if Susanna (the MC) was telling the story to you, using simple and teenager-like language and sentence structures.
Susanna is weirldy boy-obsessed but she is 16 so who am I to judge her for that (
eventhough maybe a guys voice shouldn‘t make you overlook their uncle‘s / father‘s serial murders…
) She carries an „I‘m so hopeless, no boy will ever like me“ attitude which was a little annoying, but she was called out for it in canon and is in my opinion just a case of a teen being bad at perceiving herself correctly.
The existent family dynamics were really fun and interesting to me, Susanna‘s discomfort and problems to slot herself into the new system were really well depicted. Her friends are kinda not people, uhm, in general everyone but her (and even her only if you squint) aren‘t really three dimensional character's, but this is a young adult serial mystery novel and I don‘t expect them to be.
For the mystery…. it‘s fun as well. Twists, turns, a few teenage blunder‘s, half-thought-out plans which do have consequences
The Vampire bait and switch though!!! I don‘t quite know how in the very end she figured out that Doc‘s nickname was Red but I‘m sick and just probably overread something so…

In total, this book was nothing special, nothing I will ever pick up again or reread but it was a quick, simple and rather fun book.

This book is almost as good as the first in the series. There's a good deal of action and a lot of funny lines. It definitely makes you want to read more. I just want Jesse and Suze to kiss already!
