Powieści Chrisa Cartera są moim zdaniem… mocne. Mordercy są niezwykle brutalni, często są to seryjni zabójcy, których ściga dwójka detektywów - Robert Hunter i jego partner Carlos Garcia. „Jestem śmiercią” to już 7 tom z tej serii i mam wrażenie, że każdy kolejny jest coraz lepszy!
Pierwszy tom „Krucyfiks” był w mojej opinii mocnym średniakiem, bo dosyć szybko udało mi się odgadnąć zakończenie, a jednak wolę czuć się przechytrzona i przede wszystkim zaskoczona, kiedy dochodzimy do rozwiązania zagadki i odkrywamy kim jest morderca. Ale zdążyłam polubić detektywów, więc słuchałam dalej. Jest jednak jeszcze jeden element tych powieści, który zawsze sprawia, że przewracam oczami - opis przeszłości Huntera. To fajny detektyw, który cierpi na bezsenność (i samotność), dobry w swoim fachu, ale jego życiorys jest wręcz nieprawdopodobny, zresztą oceńcie to sami: „Nim skończył czternaście, zdążył przerobić cały przewidziany dla liceum materiał z angielskiego, biologii i chemii. Nim skończył dziewiętnaście lat, miał już za sobą studia z psychologii”. I jest to wspomniane w KAŻDYM tomie! Ale okej, na szczęście to tylko wzmianka, sam Robert jest naprawdę spoko, więc dalej kontynuowałam serię wiedząc, że ma ona swoje słabsze strony. A jednak słuchałam dalej, a tym co sprawiało, że nie mogłam przestać są ciekawi mordercy, brutalne zbrodnie, a także bardzo fajne rozwiązania spraw (poza pierwszym tomem ani razu nie odgadłam zakończenia)!
I tak doszłam do wspomnianego już tomu 7, który zrobił na mnie takie wrażenie, że odstawiłam przeszłość Huntera na bok i oceniłam powieść na maksymalne 5 gwiazdek. W tym tomie pozą samą sprawą śledzimy poniekąd poczynania mordercy, dowiadujemy się o tym jak traktuje ofiarę i zaczynamy nawet trochę panikować, bo chcemy, żeby Hunter wreszcie uratował chłopca! Niech się pospieszy! Zakończenie? Świetne!
A muszę także wspomnieć o samym pisarzu, który pracował jako psycholog kryminalny,w związku z czym przesłuchiwał właśnie między innymi seryjnych morderców. Bardzo ciekawie ich przedstawia, często pokazuje ich motywacje. Robi to niesamowicie dobrze!

Carter's mind is like no other. This book was amazing. I love the ending and how como everything came together. The ending was perfect, in particular the fate of the boy and the last chapter.

Another great read by Carter .
I must admit, this is the first one I’ve haven’t been able to guess the ending or the suspect ! Tho I had my suspicions, it was just the wrong person .
4 days to finish, was indeed a page turner.

I've literally just sat all day and night and read this book! There was no way I could close this book unless I had completely finished it.
From page 1 this book just captivates you. I have been a huge fan of Chris Carter for a while now and he never fails to surprise me.
This is by far my favourite of the Robert Hunter Series. I was just completely hooked.
So many freaky parts that they actually made me shiver with fear.
And the conclusion? Wow... Just wow.
Anyone who loves a good thriller and isn't afraid of reading pretty disgusting and messed up things then this is the book for you!
Well done Chris Carter, once again you have amazed me and I hope there is many more books to come from this series.

Detective Robert Hunter, who leads LAPD's Special Section, Ultra Violent Unit, is assigned the case. But almost immediately a second body turns up. Hunter knows he has to be quick.
Surrounded by new challenges as every day passes, Detective Hunter finds himself chasing a monster. A predator whose past hides a terrible secret, whose desire to hurt people and thirst for murder can never be quenched - for he is DEATH.
I love Chris Carter's writing style. I find when I'm reading any of his books, they clearly play out in my head like a movie and this book was just the same.
This book is quite gruesome in parts with graphic descriptions of what the victims go through and has one of the most cold and confident serial killers that I've ever read about. His lack of human emotion and his ability to lead Hunter a merry dance makes for some great reading and a book that you will read well into the night (as long as you don't scare easy). The ending was quite surprising, just when I thought I knew who it was, bang, the real killer is revealed.
Another great read from Chris Carter, looking forward to starting the next book in the series, The Caller.
