I enjoyed the heart of this story. Riley is a 12yo learning to navigate his world through the trauma of his mother's disappearance and his acceptance of the "condition" that makes him who he is.

EW was not wrong. was NOT expecting this to shatter me the way it did. gorgeous. only 3 stars because ive still read better.
Not a good book for children - contains childhood trauma and a lot of adult themes. Other than that, decent coming of age story with heartwarming prose.
This was such an enjoyable novel. filled with whimsy and deeply emotional moments.
Riley's mother has gone missing, and he feels like he's the only one invested in finding her. He believes that a story about The Whispers, that his mother told him, is real and that they know where she is.
With his dog Riley sets out to find The Whispers, a seemily fairy like creatures misted in blue.
I really didn't expect this book to get to me the way it did. I didn't go into it expecting to cry but I did. I shouldn't have been surprised, it seems like middle grade media always has really emotional moments (looking at you Pixar!).

i LOVED this middle grade book so much. there's something so magical yet deep about middle grade books,, i can't even explain it. i read it in a weekend (a record for me!) and totally adored it. it reminded me a lot of “when life gives you mangoes” by kereen getten (in the best way possible!) so i absolutely recommend reading both of them :')
A solid middle-grade read about dealing with grief with some instantly memorable title chapters, such as "5-4-3-2-1 Fruit Salad" and "Pentecostal Corn Choir." (7.5)
Read this is one sitting and I'm crying so that should tell you everything you need to know
Wow, this went from "Oh, this is kinda fun." to "What is even going on?" to "BOOK, why would you do this to me??" and me getting super choked up and emotional.
I didn't really know what this book was going to be when I went into it, but you could have probably figured it out if you paid attention.
I really liked the writing and Riley as a main character. The way he always explained words in his own way, whenever they turned up in his narration, so sweet!
