I really enjoyed re-reading this book. I forgot how many great details and backstory about lord Voldemort and the horcruxes are missed in the movies.

The memory visits into Voldemort’s past certainly makes the chosen horcruxes and their local feel far more intentional and rounds him out as a much more complex villain.

The only reason I didn’t love it as much as some of the other books just comes down to how this book is more geared towards the set up the final book and to develop the characters out rather than action/adventure/mystery plots points compared to the other books.

WHY AM I ALWAYS LEFT SOBBING AFTER READING A HARRY POTTER BOOK? things go so well and then I'M FUCKING CRYING???

It's like the more I learn the more questions I have. mostly about snape cause I don't understand him at all. he's more bipolar than my own father (who, by the way, actually has bipolar). and then snape is a little shithead to harry who has experienced so much loss and I can't seem to stop myself from crying every time someone dies and I read harry's reaction. WHY CAN HE NOT BE HAPPY?

I was enjoying this book so much because, to me, it was like a nice vacation after having to deal with umbridge. we were all having a good time slowly learning about voldemort while relationships were developing on the sidelines and IT WAS FANTASTIC! but, of course, I understand that it wouldn't be a harry potter book if we didn't suffer a little toward the end.

It might seem like I’m complaining, but I truly loved it. because this book was so perfect. I swear I felt the whole five stages of grief.

each book has its own vibe and this one was my favorite because we steadily grew toward the climax and it was like I was humbled and reminded to not get too comfortable WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT I LOVE. I'll be so impressed if she manages to pull this off again so perfectly but so far it's only been poa and now hbp that've knocked me off my feet like this so who knows?

thought I wrote while reading
-after 6 books, I've realized that ron can be kinda mean. like, he's funny, but his temper isn't doing it for me anymore. maybe it's because he's older and I expect more of him but whatever. hermione is honestly my new favorite (my girl is always saving the day cause she’s so smart and amazing) and harry (obviously).
-THE SLOW BUILD UP TO HARRY AND GINNY? AMAZING.
-I'm just waiting for ron and hermione to make out already. it's so obvious they're obsessed with each other. ron needs to get his act together.
-I've found that my favorite books of the series have been the ones where it's more relaxed and the characters are more happy. for example, poa and this book. so I think that's why I'm enjoying this book so much. especially because gof and otp were just too depressing to consider them my favorite.

There’s so much to this book that’s left out of the movie. I was pleasantly surprised by all the information I missed out on. Although I would’ve loved more information on the halfblood prince. I can’t wait to read the seventh book.

Rowling should have made this a YA series, starting from the 4th book. Not sure why it's a junior series and 7-9 year olds are calling this the "book of the year" in the blurb.

A recurring problem since the 4th book to deal with the age restrictions: we are given 2-3 pages on major darker events (e.g. Sectumsempra and Dumbledore's death, Sirius's death) while 100+ pages are dedicated to fillers such as Slug club, Quidditch World cup, etc. I'd preferred a more intense fight for Draco and Dumbledore. Both whom are characters which have featured from the debut book - not bloody Slughorn.

Given that 20% of this book is filler, Rowling has to catch-up in the finale. Happened once between Goblet-Order, and I'm predicting that it will happen again.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is a wonderful book in the Harry Potter franchise. Rowling continues her superb storytelling - a style that that captivates me every single chapter.

We also get the opportunity to see more character development and learn essential backstories. While much of the character and backstory reveals center around Volemort, we also get the see the students continue to grow, mature, and struggle through the challenges of being 16 years old.

Overall, Half-Blood Prince is a charming book in the franchise that is heartbreaking, heartwarming, and coming-of-age.
