Might not be for everyone. But if you like generational friendships, wisdom sharing in both directions, slow motion romance, a very tidy bow on things - tis for you. I enjoyed.

I read this because I saw a poster for a book club inside the Celina Public Library and they are meeting just before I have to fly to California for the spring field season. It was very easy to engage with the characters and to feel alongside Clover (and her grandpa) even though she is portrayed as a little odd. I did cry a little at the very end but I also thought throughout the whole book that I've never known anyone in New York City to take a cab as much as they do in books or on TV. I was scared halfway through the book that the story was taking a turn too far into romance but was pleasantly surprised that it didn't end up being too much for me. The story makes me want to attend a death café!

This was an easy read: the usual sort of journey for an introverted person who happens to have a job that apparently freaks people out (Death doula) and learns to take risks through the power of loss and other people's advice as they are dying. As I said, this was a very easy read, but the lack of friction is because there's not really anything new or interesting being said. We all know Clover will meet someone during this book since she's in her thirties and has never even been kissed. When it does happen, it's far too perfect a fit for me to not roll my eyes. There are older people in Clover's life who we know will have health issues and probably pass away by the end to teach her a valuable lesson about life and love, and the usual journey through introspection for Clover along the way.

I'm making this sound very negative, but the truth is, this was enjoyable in an uncomplicated, beach read kind of way. A fun, sweet story that hits all the notes you'd expect for this sort of book and does it reasonably well.

4.5- I loved this and the ending was stunning but WOW have I ever despised a character as much as I did Sebastian

4.5 stars. Once I got to 55%, I was all in and read until I finished it. A very tender read... Full of love, relationships, grief, hope, and amazing quotes. I just loved this so so much. I will miss being in Clovers universe with her sweet mind.
