A completely pointless addition to the series that is not only a bad book on its own, but retroactively makes the series worse. It’s rambling and without the intrigue or thrill of the earlier novels. The characters are annoying and the plot dull. Do yourself a favor and pretend this book doesn’t exist

What an ending!

There are a lot of reviews that say that they did not like the sudden change in POV two thirds of the the way through the book, and I get. The switch to a profanity laden Lowry is jarring and off-putting. He's an off-putting dude, we already knew this from the series. Nevertheless, if you stick with it, you then follow Lowry into Area X and its some of the most batshit moments of the series. It was so fucking weird and I am 100% here for it.

I loved this series, so glad I read them. I hope there's a book 5. I will have to look into Jeff VanderMeer's other books, too.
