Required work reading

I had to read this for a leadership training at work and while some of this book was written as a fantasy, there were good parts to this that I'll probably cherry pick and use. The philosophy that no one is doing bad work on purpose and that employees want to be praised is a good one. The fact that everything was one minute was pretty cheesy but the goal part was a good one and I get the gist of the redirects. The one minute praising was straight up cheesy there is no other way to put it. The way this book was written was terrible. The new one minute manager was so mean?? "I don't repeat myself young man I'm not a tape recorder" like excuse me?? Just elaborate on the good job it won't kill you! But otherwise, quick read, meh. 4/10 wouldn't reaaaaally recommend to others. The book could be summed up in a paragraph.

Such a good summary of being a manager it's a good short read and very worth while

Great, straight forward advice for any manager!

Great book

I just finished reading the book. It is so simple to understand and so easy to apply the teachings of the book that a 5 star ranking is deserved. There are hundreds of books about managing and leadership with lots of insights and ideas to apply. It turns out you just need three focus points and start working from there. The one minute manager will grow within you and will help you be a better leader and better person.

Useful information delivered in the most haunting, dystopian way possible.

Let's get the complaints over with. The dialogue is written too simply. It's like a wannabe The Little Prince which packs important lessons in simple words, but with this book, it just comes off as annoyingly condescending. I feel like the manager is talking down to me.

That said, I think that the points this book makes are really good, and applicable for anyone who supervises people. Because who doesn't want clear goals to achieve, praise for a job well done, and constructive criticism that spurs you to perform better?
