That's the way to end a series.

I started this series because it seemed light-hearted and clever, started to enjoy it for its mythology and wit, and came to love it because of the characters. Generally I have found the pervious books to be somewhat predictable - but never boring - but this one legitimately kept me guessing. I credit a lot of that with the introduction of Charlie's sister, Alina, who was a surprise from the start to the very end.

And though this book lacked a lot of the humor of its predecessors, it was appropriately atmospheric for a novel culminating in the final showdown between good and evil, and it did not pull any punches.

I am so glad I found this series.

3/5 stars

I'm so disappointed but I'm really relieved at this ending at the same time. I love jackaby and abigail so much and this series is one that will stick with me, for sure, ridiculous or not. I cried so much at this ending I can't believe it

It's been a couple of days (weeks?) since I actually finished this and when I just clicked on it to review, I literally fucking sighed out loud. I loved this book. I loved this series. Perfection in story telling and character development.

Rating: 4.5 stars

This was such a fitting ending for this series. There were moments throughout the book that felt a little jumbled, hence the .5 star reduction but regardless I loved the book. I'm so glad I picked this series up on a whim last year and I'm really going to miss these characters.

I'll happily pick up any other book William Ritter writes from now on. And hopefully, I can find more paranormal fantasy in the future to fill the space this leaves behind (is that dramatic?).

Oh fuck you, William Ritter. That ending killed me. Playing with my emotions so I was a sobbing mess for two different reasons. WTF.

I’m really emotional, so some of this might not make sense.
When I first started reading this book, I had been on the fence about continuing the series. I liked all of the stories, but I usually judge a story on how much I think about t outside of reading it. That being said, I obviously continued, and found this to be one of the best books in the series. Abigail Rook is one of my favorite characters because of her heart and stubborn determination to make the world better. In the climax of Jackaby and Abigail’s adventures I felt so many emotions. I laughed, I cried at the end! The whole book put me through a roller coaster of feelings. I really think Ritter found his story with this book, and I’m really glad he wrote it. (Also, thank you for the Supplemental Materials. It really made all the difference)

What a great conclusion to a great series.

I fell in love with the quirky world of Jackaby from the very first book. Detective stories are not anything new, and this one is quite similar to Sherlock Holmes in many ways, so one would argue not very original, but the supernatural elements really set it apart from anything I've ever read.

I will not go into any detail as to the plot of this one, because I don't want to spoil anything, but it was suspenseful from the get go, not wasting any time for fillers. A lot happens in those 340 pages.

My rating sat at 4 stars for the duration of this book UNTIL the very last page. After that ending, I needed to give it 5 stars.

I will miss this series and those characters a lot. I would die for a spin off series, because I'm just not ready to say goodbye to everyone.

The Jackaby series has completely crept its way into my heart at this point. Looking back, it is so bizarre to me how disappointed I was with the first book. The three books since then have been such a journey. My heart is broken but is also… full. I have no words for my love of this cast, of this world. This series uses so many of my favourite elements and manages to twist them into unique and compelling stories with ease. I am in awe of Ritter’s writing. It remains lush and poignant while retaining that biting sarcastic tone that makes Jackaby and Abigail such memorable protagonists. I adore the two of them more than words can express. I was not disappointed with this sequel in the slightest. It was bloody and brutal and beautiful. I selfishly want more.

This was an awesome ending to a unique series! There was nonstop action, crazy schemes, more unique characters, and laughs mixed in with the sadness. I felt that the whole wrap-up of the mystery that’s been building throughout the series was very well done. The conclusion was somewhat predictable, but more in a way where as you read it, you realized it would happen all along.

Overall, I was very satisfied with this series conclusion. Thanks for a wonderful journey, Jackaby + crew!
