Read this for my book club and it has sadly made me regret championing the 'animal stories' genre.

I'm sure Gwen Cooper is a nice person but this book, which posits itself as a book about an adventurous cat, is really just her memoir, with increasingly mundane cat anecdotes sprinkled throughout (there's a whole bit where she's just like...finding the cat food they like). I love animals but this felt like being trapped with someone telling me how amazing their pet is and adding a lot of poignancy to moments that were not deserving of it!!

Some bits were more compelling and I do like little Homer, but I think going forward I will keep my animal stories to books about pigs and particularly winsome rats.

This book was pretty great, maybe because I love cats?

Although I do think there was a little too much Lawrence at the end...

This book may be about a blind cat, but I think it's a must-read for any animal lover. Scarlet reminded me so much of my calico, Cally, and I think they could have been kitty friends, especially since they weren't much into humans. But, now I want my own Homer. Gwen does such a great job of expressing his personality, and really gets you to know him. I don't read non-fiction as a general rule, but I'm really glad I read this on a recommendation.

What a sweet book! Homer is so much more than just a blind kitty, and the author did a wonderful job of telling stories of how knowing Homer made her a better person. I especially appreciated the chapters surrounding 9/11. I am old enough to remember it happening, but this woman's tale- the story of someone close to Ground Zero but not so close as to have been in any real physical danger- made my heart pound and my eyes sting.

3.75. Beautiful memoir of a cat family of three with the blind cat Homer as the main character! Love this story because shows how cats are much more than companions and the unique ways they show us that they love us. I love everything Homer represents and highly recommend this book to any and all pet lovers!

I don't normally read many inspiring pet tales, but I fell in love with Homer just from the the book cover. I love him even more now! Homer is an exception, too, because his tale is pretty well-written, as opposed to many pet tales.

Cooper delivers a cute, lovable story laced with inspiration. Any cat owners, or anyone who has eve met a cat for that matter, will relate to this book. As Cooper describes the antics and heroics of her blind cat, Homer, the reader cannot help but find himself eagerly waiting for the next word. This book delivers a roller coaster of emotions and adventures and is perfect for a casual read.

I’ve come to love Gwen Copper’s writing very very much. Her stories are so full of heart and warmth and it’s so clear how much her cats mean to her. I hope she keeps writing many more books and short stories.
Homer’s Odyssey in particular is a touching memoir in which she describes how Homer, a blind kitten, improved her life and taught her important lessons. It’s remarkable how a special cat can save us from ourselves even when we think we are saving the cat.

I’m a cat parent, so I might be a little biased, but I love this book. It’s absolutely worth your time and money.
