Master of Iron is the conclusion in the Bladesmith duology by Tricia Levenseller. I loved the characters and the trials that they go through. It was wonderfully written. I am so glad to own these books on my physical shelf.

A great conclusion to a wonderful duology! I enjoyed the first book a tad bit more, but still had a great time with Master of Iron and loved being back with these characters. I especially loved the way anxiety was represented in these books, which was done particularly well (imo).
*3.5
I love duologies and need to read them more.
This was more action-filled than the first, which makes sense. It kept me entertained without a moment to be bored. Ziva grew from the last book, but still made me sigh whenever that growth was attacked and whatnot. But, as someone with anxiety, valid. She had her doubts and still questioned. Fair.
The world was still if-y to me with the world building. I wished we had gotten more about it. I did enjoy Ziva meeting other magic users and hoped we spent more time with them.
Kellyn is a sweetheart. So is Petrik. I wanted more from Temra, but alas.
This was a decent seris and I look forward to reading more from Levenseller!

Really solid conclusion! I love the anxiety rep in here and the romance and sibling dynamic are both so heartwarming!!
I didn’t like some of the directions in this second installment but I was invested enough in the characters to find out what happened so there’s that. Not my fav duology/series by this author. I appreciate the mental health rep in the book but felt it became repetitive/heavy handed at times.

Blade of Secrets definitely comes out on top but this was still an enjoyable sequel and I'm so sad it means the duology is over
This book was actually really good. I didn’t have extremely high hopes just because I like these books less then her other ones but I think this was a great conclusion. There were also plenty of moments that had me very emotional. Honestly a great time.
"They don't talk about how messy it is. Killing. In the storybooks, it's all about glory and honour. They don't mention how blood can get in your mouth. How bladders loosen. How the smell of death is so cloying, you choke on it. How a face that was once animated can suddenly become lifeless."

Tricia’s books are the type where as soon as they are released and in my hands I NEEEEED to read them, & this was no exception. I was so keen to discover what happened to Ziva, Temra, Kellyn & Petrik. While it seems many didn’t relate or understand Ziva, I related to her on such a deep level at times it felt like Tricia had plucked the emotions & thoughts straight from my brain. It feels like so much more than social anxiety, speaking as someone who is autistic, Ziva’s traits screamed autistic to me, not just social anxiety. And with those observations let move onto the story itself & what I thought.
I really loved it for the most part, but I felt there could have been a little more world building & a bit more depth to some of the characters. I wanted to learn more about Petrik’s life growing up in the library, why his mother felt the need to essentially abandon him, & why Kymora felt it was in the countries best interest for her to overtake it & become the sole ruler. I wanted more time with the other magically gifted individuals that we only got to meet in tiny passing moments, I wanted to learn more about each of them, what their motivations were, why they chose to be where they were, how they discovered their powers etc. I mean, Petrik was writing a book on them all, but we still learned so little!
I loved how hard Ziva tried to understand those around her even though she found it incredibly difficult to do so, & I loved how patient & kind Kellyn was towards Ziva, he gave her the room to grow & learn, while always being there to gently nudge her in the direction she needed to go to figure out what she needed to do. He doesn’t try to change her, merely helps her broaden her horizons just a little bit at a time. Their banter was excellent, & I also loved Ziva & Petriks friendship, her budding friendships with the other magic wielders & royalty; & her fierce love & devotion to her sister. The end felt a little rushed for my tastes, but it did end well all said & done. I only wish there was one more book with the fearsome foursome adventuring around Ghadra lol! Like with every fantasy book I read, I truly wish there was an epilogue set a year or two down the road so that we knew where everyone ended up & how they were going. A solid 4 stars for me, would have been 5 had it just had a little more world & character building.
