i was kinda bored but it had a good part about halfway in

Only read 50%, not feeling it

A murder mystery, podcast style! I’m such a sucker for books like this. The book alternates between a first person POV, our main protagonist Anna, who scored a summer nanny gig in the Hamptons, and a third person POV with Martina, our podcast host. I really enjoyed how the story comes together. If you enjoyed Sadie by Courtney Summers and/or Serial, check this one out!

2.5 stars. I understand that the inspiration for this book was Rebecca, but this book was weird. The protagonist is obsessed with a missing girl she's never met but who she looks like. Then she starts having these strange flashes of memories which she can't fully remember and doesn't know if they're even real. Because of these, she convinces herself that she must have killed Zoe and confesses to the police. She doesn't try to get to the bottom of what's happening or investigate if she really did know Zoe and killed her. She just confesses. There was a lack of investigation in this book that left me wanting more. Martina and her dull podcast just wasn't enough.

The book is too long considering that not much happens besides days spent watching Paisley and going to the beach. Towards the middle, I just got bored and just wanted the book to end. The only thing that I liked was the ending. It was a surprise to me. It explained most things but I can't think too hard about it or some stuff still doesn't make sense to me.

i'm only giving three stars because i guessed practically the entire plot. the book definitely started out great, but it eventually kept spiraling down to madness. i don't believe for a single moment that the author set up all these suspicious characters (Caden, Mrs. Talbot, Max) to throw everyone for a loop by making the SISTER the murderer. aster only has a few key moments in the story, so yeah. definitely not what i would have done.

and the whole podcast thing was so unnecessary because martina never brings up anything interesting. it's just "oh look at this suspicious silly goose, they're not the murderer!".

tl;dr there's something about the writing style that seems... off. other than that it's okay.

It’s been a huge struggle for me, as a reader, to get properly into mysteries and thrillers. I’ve always read so many other genres that I’ve never fully understood why this one hasn’t resonated with me.

But, I’ve been trying to broaden my horizons as a reader, which I am so thankful for because it led me to this gem.

At first, I can say that I was beyond confused as to how the main character of this book had anything at all to do with any of the events that happened before we meet her.

But, very quickly I learn that Anna, who this story revolves around, isn’t the most reliable of narrators. But, I think even she knows this, as she struggles through the book with holes in her memory.

Because of the nature of this story, I’m hesitant to say too much because I never want to give anything away.

So, I’m going to stick with what stood out to me the most–and that would be the fantastic writing by Ms. Frick.

I truly cannot praise her enough, as I was swept away in this story that I had no idea how it would end! And, I typically really enjoy a predictable ending.

But, this was done so well–with so many characters that I wanted to read more about.

If you’re like me and don’t read too many in the mystery or thriller genres but would like to begin–I fully endorse I Killed Zoe Spanos. There’s just enough mystery to keep the reader enthralled but not so to make me have to go back and reread passages out of confusion.

I can’t wait to read more from this genre–and especially this author!

Definitely was very intrigued the whole time, but felt almost as if the ending/final reveal was a tiny bit of a let down.

This is what I call a good YA mystery/thriller. I was emerged into the story, the characters were interesting and it was well thought out.

It was really intriguing and compelling until the reveal. That was really underwhelming.
