I would surely like it better if I’ve never read the masterpiece that is „A good girl’s guide to murder”.
But to quote another amazing author: If you never saw the stars, candles were enough (it’s Maggie Stiefvater’s birthday!)

Wow. If you are looking for a YA thriller that appeals to teens and adults this summer, look no further. Anna Cicconi is a recent HS graduate of Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and has taken a summer job of being a nanny to a 7 -8 year old girl Paisley who lives in a tony village in the Hamptons with her well to do hard working parents. Anna has quit drinking because of blackouts. As people mistake her for a missing girl, Zoe Spanos, she starts to have memories of Zoe she should not have. For some reason, listening to a podcast by a local teenager Martina, Anna thinks she is responsible for Zoe's death. She confesses which puts a kabosh in her college plans.

There are several potential suspects in Zoe's disappearance. I was definitely surprised by the reveal. A lot makes sense at the end, although it was slightly anticlimactic. Anna's resemblance to Zoe, I figured out somewhere into the book. This book hovers somewhere between 4.0 and 4.3 out of 5. It definitely made me crave ice cream, the beach and lemon spritzes.

Anna is new to Herron Mills in the Hamptons, working as a summer nanny. Her fun-filled summer is eclipsed by the disappearance of Zoe Spanos, who has been missing for a few months. Anna and Zoe look alike, and that only adds fuel to the fire about town.

When Zoe’s body is found two months later, Anna is charged with the crime. She confesses, but it’s a bit of a mess and doesn’t seem to fit the crime. Martina Green, another teen, is the host of the Missing Zoe podcast, and she works nonstop to prove that Anna isn’t really the killer.

This book was inspired by Rebecca! I still have not read Rebecca, but I want to read it all the more now. This book kept me guessing. Everything you thought was true will be challenged. Overall, it was pretty wild and exciting, and I enjoyed Kit Frick’s style!

I received a gifted copy. All opinions are my own.

Thank you to NetGalley for sending me an advanced copy of this book! I Killed Zoe Spanos follows the tale of Anna as she nannies for a rich Hamptons family the summer before she starts college. Upon her arrival, however, she is told that she resembles missing teen Zoe Spanos-and that's not where the coincidences end. I went into this story expecting a slightly spooky summer read, and was pleasantly surprised at how I was enthralled at every twist and turn, and how this book constantly kept me guessing. I highly recommend it.

This had that nice "what is actually happening here" vibe that I like in mysteries. It's hard to say much without giving anything away. I wish the ending was a tad stronger, but I also guessed some of it (which isn't saying much since as I was reading, I was also throwing out any possibility under the sun--I had to get something right!).

Fans who liked the podcast aspect of Sadie (but not the super dark grittiness of it), or We Were Liars would probably like this one. (Plus, such an attractive cover).

Wow. I’m exhausted from the journey Kit Frick took me on in this one!

Loosely based on Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, I Killed Zoe Spanos is the kind of read that has me desperate to finish just to know what has happened.

More than once I was ready to cheat and skip to the end. I’m very glad I resisted the temptation, because the final reveal was such a satisfying rush of adrenaline.

I don’t think I’ve ever been this tense while reading!

I would have given it 5 stars, but it had language and it was SO unnecessary. Still, if you like cold cases, podcasts, and wild whodunnits, I recommend.

3.5 stars.

This was really intriguing right from the beginning. I had no idea what to expect and I love when that happens. I liked the unreliability of the main character but when it was revealed why she was like that, something felt like it was missing. Nonetheless, it was still very enjoyable.
mysterious slow-paced

It was good in that I couldn't predict what happened. However,
1. I listened to the audiobook and with all the narrators you'd think their narration would be heard throughout the book, but was only heard through the interviews which were few and far between. If I'd have just read the physical copy I probably would have liked it a little more.
And 2. In my opinion, it was too slow and took too long to get to the point. The back and forth of the timeline helped but I kept finding myself drifting into other thoughts and havingbto rewind.
Overall it's an ok read but I'll never read it again, my advice going in is to read the physical copy and skip the audio.
