Marie, my queen... you've done it again.

This is a fantastic debut novel for Marie's next series! I love video game realities as a default, but this is such an awesome world of tech especially. I would actually love to see this on the big screen just for the grand, lush visuals we could be provided!
The three large plot twists were a little predictable for me, but I suspect that is more so because I've read enough at this point to see where things are going. However, the how and why these twists occur are/were surprises, so I'm pleased that even if I saw it coming, I was still surprised and betrayed! It's also setting up to be a very, very complex world when the second novel releases, so I am eagerly looking forward to how this all plays out.
I'm so happy Marie is back with a new series, and I CANNOT wait for book two. I'll definitely be getting this book with my annual B&N gift card(s) at Christmas. And maybe pre-ordering book 2?

For the book being named after the game, we rarely get to see how it works and how it is developed. The MC is a pick-me who if you haven't notice has rainbow hair (she mentions it around 40 times) who is so unique. When I read this some years ago I thought it was amazing, but now I see the lack of a good storyline and how annoying everyone is. But well I did finish it so it's not impossible

I don't want to waste a lot of time on this review. This book is YA through and through. It's been quite some time since I've read something this cliché. The main character feels like it's aimed directly at 15 year old girls, who identify with main characters that are just so different from all the other girls, causing their popular crush to immediately notice them and realise just how special they are.
While the world of Warcross may be built on an interesting idea, Lu's poor research and utter lack of technical finesse made it impossible for me to enjoy it. There isn't a single character that isn't a YA stereotype, from the obnoxious orphan heroine, who uses her unmatched abilities to selflessly fight for others, over the dark and mysterious love interest up to the quirky gay character (who btw adds absolutley zero additional value to the story other than just being the mandatory diverse character).
The worst thing, however, about this book is the incredibly predictable "plot twist"

About the first time that our brooding heart-throb Hideo mentioned that his brother mysteriously disappeared as a child, I knew that the big revelation at the end would be that Zero is nobody but Hideo's missing brother himself. It was the painfully obvious choice for a plot-twist, and it made the end fall just flat, just like the rest of the ridiculous "twist" of events.I'm really sad that this turned out to be such a disappointment, but there really isn't much positive to say about this in my eyes.

copy and paste character tropes, romance, and plot twists from other YA books. very predictable ending, flat characters, and forced romance between characters with no chemistry. however the premise is still interesting enough where i kinda wanna read the next book.
