Errol and Thomas the teddy play together every day. One day, Teddy realizes she wants to identify as Tilly. Errol adjusts instantly to his friend's request. So does Errol's friend Ava. They all continue to play together the same as they do any other normal day.
Nice simple pictures. Not too many words/page so this is a good kid book. The story-line is as simple as I wrote, and this simple message of acceptance and life-as-normal is what kids (and adults) need to hear.
I saw this book in the list of 800+ books attempting to be banned- by Texas state Rep Matt Krause.

A gentle introduction to gender. I would supplement with books with human characters as well, because it's been shown that while books like this are good, the lessons resonate more with human characters than animals.

THIS is a fantastic book to read to young kids about transgender children! Very well written and done in a way that it doesn't focus on the change, but the fact that a trans person is still the same person inside.

A great picture book to introduce kids to the idea of gender. I loved how nonchalantly teddy's human friends accepted the transition from Thomas to Tilly. I also appreciated the realistic portrayal of teddy's struggle to come out.

What a lovely way to introduce a potentially touchy subject! Definitely putting this one in the library collection.

A sweet story about a teddy bear who nervously comes out as trans* to her friend, and how her friend still loves and accepts her and continues to play with her since being trans* shouldn't affect whether people should or shouldn't love you, nor make you any less worthy of love and friendship.
A gentle story, simple and cute illustrations, and a great addition to help build one's LGBT+ picture book collection when there are still titles so few out there.

Reread 25/8/2021, just as straightforwardly joyful as I remember. Really glad to now have my own copy

I applaud the idea and think books about gender identity are needed, but the story felt too simplistic.

This is a really sweet book that I am excited to have and bring into my classroom. It gently talks about gender, but at its heart is a book about friendship and acceptance.
