Reimaginings of Greek mythology seems to be coming increasingly popular, and Hades is often at the center of the retellings. This attempt wasn't one of the best that I've read, but it still had its moment. I enjoyed Kate's growth as a leader. She had to make the tough choices, like over the whole Theo-Ava-Xander issue, and was able to do so no matter how much it hurt.
I did have a few moments where my suspension of disbelief reached its limit, namely on the new take on the Hades-Persephone myth. Hades a virgin? No. Uh uh. Not buying that for a minute. These are the Greek gods we're talking about here.
Overall, an interesting reworking of the Greek mythology, but there are other, better ones to take the time to read.

This book was definitely different. I had a hard time with who the Gods ended up being and the roles they played, it didn't make much sense to me but then again it is fiction.
Nov 6, 2016: After re-reading the third book and now re-reading the first book, I realized how much richer this first installment in the series is in plot! That’s not to say I didn’t enjoy the third book, but I feel like The Goddess Test was more well put together. Percy Jackson is pretty much the only series I’ve read that’s based on Greek myths, and I like Carter’s very different take on tying it into the story. I had a lot of fun reading this, and even though there isn’t a whole lot of substance to Kate and Henry’s dialogue, I love them together anyway. I love James and am glad Ava plays more of a part in this novel than in the third book. I missed her. Is it weird I’m rereading this series out of order?

I forgot I read this until I saw the title mentioned in another review I read. That should be an indication of how it was.
I really enjoyed the book and the take on Greek mythology in a modern romance setting. I think they way in which the story developed was well thought out and was well concluded at the end.
I'd moreso give it like 1.5 stars. It was promising, a modern take on the Hades/Persephone story (which seems to be the most popular myth to retell) but boy did this book drag. More than half way through and I just lost all interest.
This book appealed to me because I love Greek mythology and I'm really glad I read it.
I loved how this book made you think about the myth of Persephone and Hades differently. The myth leads you to believe that Persephone was kidnapped and forced to live with hades but the goddess test shows you that maybe Hades wasn't the bad guy.
The moment we found out that it was all a test and that even Eden wasn't real was mind blowing. I figured it was just the seven tests, I didn't think that everyone she knew was a god/goddess.

Gisteren twijfelde ik nog of ik het boek zou gaan lezen, vandaag is het uit.
