Another great book in the series!
medium-paced

First and foremost, I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first one in the series. I jumped in from the start and didn't stop until I was finished.

Willa and Jackson are the perfect case of opposites attract. Willa with her innocence and Jackson with his experienced past, these two are bound to explode when they come together. I enjoyed reading about their journey.

The side characters in this book made the book. They were that extra something this book definitely needed. They helped create the bond between Willa and Jackson.

In this author's books, she always has that one element that we have learned will eventually come in the second half of the book. If I am being honest, I was getting bored with it. It had become too predictable. She finally decided to switch it up. I couldn't have been more pleased. I didn't see that twist coming at all.

Overall, I really enjoyed this story. I didn't want to put it down until I had reached the end. I definitely was not disappointed in anything in this book. I most assuredly would recommend reading.

Tropes: Small Town Romance, Unrequited Love

TW: Parental Abandonment

Willa has had a crush on Jackson Page since she first laid eyes on him at seventeen years old. After finishing college, Willa moves back to Lark Cove with her parents, and works at the local summer camp. One of her favorite things to do is sit on the school playground swings and look at the stars late at night. The last person she expected to see one evening is Jackson Page. They share a moment that she will never forget, but unfortunately Jackson does forget. Since Willa's return to Lark Cove, she has witnessed Jackson's habit of drinking and indulging in women. He has never settled down with anyone. When Jackson starts having flashbacks of a beautiful girl, he thinks it is a dream. The night he had with Willa slowly starts coming back to him, but it takes some direction from Thea to truly wake him up to the girl who has been noticing him for years.

This is my favorite book out of the whole series! I absolutely loved Jackson and Willa, even though Jackson was a HUGE a-hole to her. Jackson has commitment and trust issues, which really affects their relationship. With having a rough past, he doesn't know how to get past it. Willa was such a strong character in this story -- through everything, she did not give up on Jackson. Willa knew that she was meant to be with him, and she fought for both of them. I loved how there was no 3rd act break up in this book, and the characters communicated their feelings to each other. Once again, Devney Perry has crafted a page turner full of great characters and a cozy small-town setting!

Willa has been crushing on Jackson since she first laid eyes on him 9 years ago. Since then, heโ€™s the only one in town who has been blind to her crush. Then one night, out of the blue, he kisses her, and itโ€™s the greatest moment of her lifeโ€ฆuntil the next day when she finds out he has no recollection of it! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

Iโ€™m a sucker for unrequited love, and those moments when *he finally sees her*, so this book was right up my alley.

Willa is a shy girl, and as a fellow shy girl, I was so proud of the moments when she stood up for herself. ๐Ÿ’ช

Jackson is a broken boy with abandonment issues, and his whole view on life is that if you donโ€™t let anyone in, they canโ€™t break your heart, and I loved watching Willa be able to open Jackson up to more.

Thereโ€™s again a bit of a โ€œsuspensefulโ€ ending to this one, but unlike ๐˜›๐˜ข๐˜ต๐˜ต๐˜ฆ๐˜ณ๐˜ฆ๐˜ฅ, I thought it worked quite well with the plot here, and actually enjoyed what it seeing it unfold.

Audiobook notes: Aaron Shedlock and Maxine Mitchell were back, and did a fabulous job!

Run from this book, like the FMC should have ran from this man, who had enough red flags to land a plane. Holy shit.

This was quite an easy read. It was very sweet in a lot of ways but the angst in this was just spot on for me. It was stressful in parts but I just wanted it all to be okay for them.

I really liked Willaโ€™s character - she wasnโ€™t as much of a doormat as I expected her to be, she stood up for herself and I liked the way that she handled Jackson. Jackson wasnโ€™t my favourite kind of character - I liked how he cared for her but I found him very frustrating in parts. They had good chemistry though - it was sweet and sexy, and it worked well with the angsty parts.

I did find some of the external plot a bit underdeveloped; the introduction of Ryderโ€™s character was cute but it felt a bit like an afterthought. I also thought that the
Spoilermurder of Jacksonโ€™s mother
was very dark and felt very out of place. I didnโ€™t think it worked at all.

The romance though was quite good and the book as a whole was an easy read, it was very engaging, and as a whole I had fun reading it.

Content Notes: Small town, unrequited love.

Jackson is the definition of abandonment issues. But given his childhood itโ€™s understandable. But there is this pull to Willa he canโ€™t get over. Willa has had a crush on Jackson since she was 17. And now sheโ€™s finally over it right when he is interested. Cute, little suspense.

Willa was kinda back and forth for me. She was strong and yet shy. I love strong female leads, and Willow was anything but that. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Willa but I just wish she would've stood up for herself, a lot more than she did.

The first part of the book was better. The middle was so so, and then the author threw something unexpected which was ok. I really could not relate to Jackson or Willa or some of their actions. Started strong then fizzled out.

I appreciate how Devney Perry can tell a story and how she develops her characters from start to finish, adds depth and personality to all of her romance stories.
