Fun story, but

Unfortunately the heroine is often really annoying. She seems to need some instructions in self satisfaction so that she can stop having exaggerated reactions to every attractive male she meets.

I LOVE all things written by Shannon Mayer.... But this series speaks to me....

Breena is a kick butt, over 40 women, who is just now starting to realize who she it, and what she is capable of in the supernatural world she has come home to live in.

There are many twists and turns as she maneuver's through all the supernatural creatures, and friends she picks up along the way....

This is book 3, and I can't wait for book 4!!!

Funny thing about these books—the main character in her narration actually warns you that a sex scene (or an attempted sex scene, usually) is about to occur and tells you to move to the next chapter if you don’t want to read it. And true to her word, if you skip ahead you don’t miss any plot.

Such a great read! Really enjoyed this one. Bree is once again having a busy couple days. Considering her aches and pains, I’m surprised she makes it.

The love triangles are getting murkier.... I want Bree to end up with Robert! Team Robert!

But once again, a cliff hanger. When’s the next book out?

Midlife Demon Hunter is another MUST read novel by Shannon Mayer. If you've read the first two books in this series...let me tell you...you WON'T be disappointed in this book whatsoever.
Bree is back and better than ever, but let me tell you...her problems have yet to stop piling up. She's out with the Hollows after getting fired. Yeah, they regret their mistake, but hey...pride and all that. LOL! So, she's striking out on her own and crashing at her dead grandmother's place that Crash owns. Bree wants the house back, but with her sleezy of an ex loading her with all of the debt...she can't exactly own anything until she pays everything off if she wants to keep anything she gets her hands on. She's avoiding the elephant in the room - the envelope that holds information about her gran and her parents. She gets a job from a goblin and draws the attention of the SCE. But apparently...she's had their attention...all along...piqued your curiosity yet? LOL!
I love how the author truly lets herself have fun with this book. Bree is a riot and I love every second of it. Bree gets some surprises and a bit of action as well in this book. Things are developing, but will they also burn and fizzle out before they can truly bloom? The author kept me on my toes and page-turning to learn what was going to happen next. There are also quite a few times that my jaw literally hit the floor and then I probably fell out laughing.
Now! Be warned...the cliffhanger at the end...I literally yowled. My family was concerned if I was okay...and let me tell you...I'm NOT okay. I neeeeeed the next book now!!! Need it I tell you!! Need it now! LOL! I have to know what happens next, because let me tell you...this book is awesome! I can easily tell that the author is loving Bree and this storyline and I can't wait for the next book to come out.
I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. This book is absolutely fantastic and I couldn't get enough of it. I absolutely love Bree and all her friends and I can't wait to see what happens with all of them later. Grab this book if you are loving this series as much as me if not more...which I can't see how. lol

Overall

I read this book in one night. The series just keeps getting better and better. Id say the first books was good. The second book was pretty good and this third installment did not disappoint. Bree is coming in to her own, taking in wayward soles creating a family and solving shadow world problems. Shannon once again is able to weave a fast-paced chaotic story leading to a satisfying conclusion while still making you want more. I intend to start the 4th book tonight and have no doubt that I will chew through the rest of the series (that is currently out) by the end of the weekend. We finally got some spice which was incredibly good <3 Crash. Robert is one of my favorite characters and I think anyone who reads this book will put it down thinking, I want a Robert. The side characters who are a bunch of misfits, that Bree has been collecting are, as always, great additions and I love how she is growing her own sort of family. The only thing keeping this from 5 stars for me is the one thing that will likely continue throughout all of the books which does slightly annoy me, I know Bree is 41 and not in great shape, I do not need to be reminded every other page.

Cover

Pretty much the same as the last just a different cover. Its ok.

Recommendation

If you have been reading darker themed books and feel like you need something on the lighter side, something that will make you laugh and smile this book is for you. If you just want a quick engaging book that doesn’t take a lot of things seriously this book is for you.  I intend to continue with the series and can’t wait to see what kind of trouble Bree gets into next.

OMG. I can't believe her husband is dead, but thank goodness. Also can't believe the shower scene. I hope she can get her gran back soon.

Midlife Demon Hunter is book three in The Forty Proof Series. Bree continues trying to iron out her problems, not to mention her love life. Her ex, Alan, has somehow managed to hack the shadow world and settle her with all his debt, something that no judge would have even agreed to without a little dark magic. She’s living in her gran’s house, but it’s owned by Crash now. She wants to get it back, but not without figuring how to undo Alan’s work. She’s still on the outskirts with the Hollows Group, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing since she still has her friends. She’s been hired by a goblin to keep something safe, there’s a demon in the house next door, and Bree’s attracted the attention of the council. You know, just another day in the life of “a mature, seasoned woman, who is all out of ducks to give”.

She still has a bit of a love triangle going on here. Corb is still in the picture though she’s not sure how much she should trust him. She’s even overheard that he might be completely playing her and Bree isn’t a fool. Her ex Alan has finally gotten his just desserts, but unfortunately, that just means that Bree is even more stuck with him than when they were married. Things have heated up with Crash. There’s a hot little shower scene and just in case, you prefer to skip, the author gives you this warning…

Now, just a warning, this is a moment where those of you with prudish tendencies might want to flip ahead a few pages. In fact, it might be best if you mosey along to the next chapter. I’ll wait for you to go. Go. Seriously.

And she does. Always nice to have an option for those who prefer their reads more on the urban fantasy than PNR side.

I’m honestly still stuck on who exactly I’m rooting for. Corb, definitely not. I think he’s just as sneaky and gross as her ex, even though he’s hot. Hot isn’t everything. Crash she still thinks is out of her league. She’s not exactly sure she can trust him either. It really seems like the only one she can trust is Robert and he’s dead, right? Her love life isn’t the only thing heating up. Her magic is really starting to snowball and Robert might just not be always stuck in skeleton form.

The plot essentially follows the formula of the first two. Things are fine, then there’s a supernatural problem, and Bree gets wrapped up in it. Her friends are there to help bail her out, thank goodness, but they end up with more questions than answers in the end. I don’t feel like there’s a ton of character development, but slowly and surely, Bree is figuring things out. She hasn’t gone from an unsure 40-something divorcee to badass woman overnight which I appreciate. It’s a slow climb to a confident magic-using life.

The Forty Proof Series just keeps getting better and better. It’s funny and action-packed and there are plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. I’m completely invested now. Check back soon for reviews of the rest of the series!
