That's more like it. This one had the same awesome steampunk world, along with a kickass heroine, a charming and occasionallly silly hero, and a great romance. Love it.

I accidentally skipped to Book 2 in this series by reading Heart of Steel before the Iron Duke. However, this does well as a stand-alone and the world building is exceptionally detailed and convincing. This is a world that I hope the author allows us to visit frequently. The romance? Well, let me just fan myself

Really like the main characters, and thoroughly enjoyed every moment they were verbally sparring, but the plot is ho-hum, and there's way too much overall world history/multiple character backstory just dumped into the narrative.

Well, we have another winner! I very much enjoyed Yasmeen and Archimedes' story. Yasmeen was a great, strong female lead and Archimedes was like an anti-alpha. The man had some definite subby tendencies that I found adorable.

Though the world-building is as impressive as in the first book, I didn't feel the plot was quite as expansive. Therefore, I wasn't as wowed here as I had been with The Iron Duke (though I still really liked it).

I also thought Yasmeen's attitude toward Archimedes seemed to shift suddenly and without a lot of clear reasons, especially considering how vested she was in not falling in love. Plus, as I've seen frequently in romances, the deeper in love she fell the weepier she became. This especially annoyed me as she was otherwise so...well, not unemotional, as she's passionate and full of emotion, but also not one inclined to the softer emotions. Tears seem drastically out of character.

Despite a few little niggles, I'm in love with this series and hope my local library gets the rest of the series.

I just loved this couple! Yasmeen is such a strong alpha female, and Archimedes is funny but clever. They compliment each other perfectly. The thing dragging this book down for me was all the parts filled with long-winded explanations. Still, I could read about these two for forever.

Loved the action and getting to know more about the zombies and Horde, and there was a good balance between romance and action.

I loved the start of this book and thought it would be better than the first. It just kind of petered out though. Things got too bogged down in the politics. The politics were all new and several different factions. This was interspersed with action scenes so it still was a good read.

Whether to give it a 3 or 4 came down to the romance, this is PNR/steampunk romance after all, and it just never really got going for me. It stayed at the same level without much growth. He was taken with her from before her throwing him over board from the last book, so really it was her coming around to care. She seemed to care from the moment she didn't blame him for her ship's slaughter. The rest just took way too long and never seemed true chemistry. They did seem to be good together, but I didn't have much want to hear more about it. Would rather hear the plot going on... until the plot gets bogged down at points in politics or stories. So really, great beginning, I liked the end though it seems anticlimactic too, and a little hiccup in the story here and there.

This series has the saddest case of terrible covers I've ever seen - the covers were why I was hesitant to read them for so long, because they're so terrible. But damn are the insides of these books amazing.

Fun steampunk book with a good romance. I was really taken by the first book in the series, I think the initial world building was so delightful and the story was this crazy wide-ranging adventure. This follow-on is a smaller scope story than the first and there's less of the imaginative world building given that it was mostly still set up in the earlier book, but it was still a good read.. I'll def be continuing with the series.
