I’d already seen the movies, which I normally don’t do before reading the books. It was hard to picture anything but that. It was targeted to the 6th to 8th grade level, which was a surprise. I assumed it would be high school at least. It was a good story and I’ll keep reading the series but I do think it’s a bit over hyped. Harry gets into Hogwarts, learns of the sorcerer’s stone which grants immortality and wealth, and prohibits Quirrell / Voldemort from getting it. It gets destroyed and they learn Snape does hat Harry, but not enough to want him killed.  Mainly because Harry’s dad saved his life back in the day. Hopefully I can get through this series by end of the year.

To be honest, I had forgotten how good this book was. I had stabbed it in as a 3 stars, just for the nostalgia, but I didn't remember it being actually good? But, in case you're actually stupid (or blind but that's not stupidity dw) my rating has changed a lot. Harry Potter himself is such a fun character that I had forgotten how easily loveable he is. Ron and Hermione and Neville and even their enemies like Filch and Snape and Draco are such charming people in their own sort of way that adds to the beautiful atmosphere of Hogwarts. And honestly, besides Pride and Prejudice, which I just barely finished reading, it's been forever since I read a book that had a meaning to it. And not just some cheesy theme it says at the end, but I actually finished this book smiling a little and thinking about my own amazing friends that love me like family and my family themselves who have given me so much. I'm really glad I came back to this book, and I'll probably go read the rest of the series now too.

After years of my husband telling me that I must listen to Jim Dale’s reading of Harry Potter, I’m reading the books for the first time! I have watched the movies only once a while back, so so much of the story feels brand new to me. And this story and audiobook experience was so magical and delightful! I laughed out loud and rooted for our heroine wizards and witches Harry, Ron, and Hermione. I loved the magical settings, eclectic characters, and treats like Chocolate Frogs, Bertie Botts Every-flavor Beans, and Pumpkin Pasties. I really felt immersed in the scenes, cheering on my friends. It is truly magical how one book can captivate readers from all ages. I look forward to reading it to my kiddos one day (when they can handle that unicorn blood scene! The horror!). Overall, a lovely read and an A+ audiobook experience. Looking forward to the next, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets!
