This book is amazing. I run a microschool in Charleston, West Virginia. I bought this book for my adolescent classroom, and it did not disappoint! The story, the telling, and the supporting research are all exquisite. A piece this well written should be the envy of any writer hoping to inspire adolescents.

This book was another audiobook at work and I must say I absolutely loved it! It was so interesting and amazing to hear about how these danish boys stood up when there government wouldn’t. I thought I would enjoy the book, but really did love it. If you like WW2 buffs or just a story about people defying and standing up for what they believe in, I highly recommend

What a great book. I didn't know much about the Danish resistance during WWII (only what I vaguely remembered from Number the Stars), but I definitely want to know more now. This story, about the beginning of that resistance, is fascinating. And it really makes you feel good about young people, who can be totally stupid and reckless and irritating, but hopefully, with the right incentive, also incredibly brave and heroic. Anyone else want to come on my now inevitable trip to Denmark?

I feel bad rating a book about Nazi resistance so low, but I can appreciate that these boys were the first Danish resistance fighters, spurred on by the inaction of the Danish adults - bravo, 5 stars for that. However, Knud and some of his fellow club members were way too reckless and hot headed. I was surprised they didn't get themselves killed or caught far sooner.

The switching between first- and third-person narration was awkward at times, maybe more so because I listened to the audiobook. The first-person narrator for Knud (Michael Braun) was the most repulsive audiobook reader I have ever encountered. I'm not sure what he was trying to accomplish with that tone and emphasis - drama? intrigue? Every word he spoke sounded exaggeratedly macho-tough-cool guy. The author, Phillip Hoose, did fine with the third person narration.

An interesting account based around interviews with a primary source and independent research about a group of boys in Denmark who resisted the Nazis during WWII and inspired the rest of the country to do likewise. I didn't know anything about this particular story, so it was interesting, and my 12yo enjoyed it too.

Where are you Hollywood? This book would make a great movie. I can't wait to get this in kids' hands. It will have a hold list a mile long.
