I felt so much deja vu with this one. It was entertaining, but I’ve read essentially the same story far too many times.

The book starts out with Katherine receiving a frantic call from the nursing home where her mom was a resident that she had started choking but a volunteer saved her. When Katherine reached the nursing home she wanted to thank the volunteer. So she meets Eve. They agree to go for drinks so that Katherine can properly thank Eve for saving her mother's life. This ends up being an evening that she will wish for a very long time that she could go back and change. The twists kept me turning the pages all night long until the early hours of the morning. This was my first book by this author and I could not put it down. I read it in one sitting. I will definitely be reading more from this author.

Shelved as DNF. The writing was all over the place and very disjointed. The protagonist is incredibly ignorant. I quit reading when she said, “Sometimes I think it would be nice to have dementia.” Seriously?

I really enjoyed the author's style of writing. The dialogue and the pace of the story were good. I hurried through the book because I wanted to get out of the story's world as soon as possible. It wasn't a thriller as much as it was just perfectly awful to be a part of the main character's terrible journey. I did not enjoy the trip. Additionally, I felt like there was no catharsis at the end; the main character didn't seem to get any real revenge. Any consequences had by the villain happened "off-screen". We didn't get to experience that like we did the psychological torture of the main character. It was wrapped up in a few summary paragraphs. So much time was spent on each little twist and torture device of the villain - to get the few lines of "this is what happened to her" at the end was really disappointing.

I have mixed feelings about this book. The stupidity of the main character was a little annoying and the narrator's voice was perfect to play her and her naivete. It still draws you because you want to know how she's going to get herself out of that mess... It was a good listen for the most part.

I just couldn't get into it. Maybe it was the wrong time?
